Ive heard users being able to get alexa to tel them the status. I would love to do this especially for door locks and lights in other parts of the room im not in. Esp when I use Alexa in the car. Ive read somethings about making alexa skills. Can anyone verify this. If so, maybe one can lead me to the right page to read and learn about creating a skills for alexa to report status. Thx
This is definitely possible on the Alexa side, but I’m not so sure on Vera. Hopefully it is coming soon. I know it is possible because I also run openHab and I can use it to query the house temperature via Alexa. I believe Alexa is (was?) fairly limited in the status it can report, but even with that you can get useful information. Trick it into thinking there is a “garage temperature” and if she says the temperature is 1, the garage is open, 0 means closed. A little geeky, but handy.
Alexa has been able to provide lock status for my Schlage deadbolt and Liftmaster garage door using MyQ. Both are setup on my Vera Plus and are not setup on Alexa themselves.
Status updates have been sketchy with my Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat, though.
So ill assume it can be done but finnicky and challenging at best!
