Alexa similar names

I’m having a lot of issues where Alexa will not turn stuff on or off. She says there are multiple items with “similar” names. Mine all have different names, but yes some words within the name may be similar, such as Bedroom Lights or Bedroom thermostat as example. If we can’t use a word in more than one item description, there is no way I will be able to control stuff with Vera’s Alexa interface. Also I have a night lights on and night lights off, and it will not execute the night lights off no matter how many times I try, its says it doesn’t exist even though it shows on the Alexa list.

Thanks for any advice

Dave

Try saying “night lights off off” - I know that is not ideal but it may go some way to help diagnose.

I am having a similar issue. I can turn on my Patio lights, I can set the percentage of the lights, I can turn on my patio fans. I can’t turn off either the patio lights or the patio fans. If I ask to turn either of these I get a reply that Device X could not be located in my profile.

I have similar experience with turning things off mostly. Sometimes on, nearly always off. I’ve tried various scene names and re-names in Alexa as well as groups in Alexa. Still testing but sometimes I feel we’re all in some big Beta Program even when they call it release… And Alexa is part of it too, not just Vera.

Alexa seems to dislike some name or name + command combinations. At home I ended up giving nicknames to a couple of devices and that seems to solve that issue. I looked into this for multiple customers and there’s nothing on our side that we can do.

I’ve noticed the same thing. My scene to stop my Sonos playing would not take ‘Sonos end’. Alexa would complain about multiple devices or not understand. Using ‘Sonos stop’ works… Same with some other names… I’m thinking that’s on the Alexa, rather then the GetVera side.
