Alexa and Vera first impressions

This is my first 24 hours with Vera linked to Alexa. Which was annoying to configure but not terribly difficult. I imagine when it is out of beta it will be searchable in the Alexa skills saving aggravation.

So far it seems to be working fine, with some minor annoyances. Not being able to unlock doors is annoying but I can understand the security of it and it isn’t an issue. The headaches I have had are in the general operation of it. Changing the name of a device for Alexa is not easy, I had to go back to one of my original setup links to do it but had I not kept the link I honestly have no idea how you would change a name or add a device (I had a typo in one of the names). The other annoyance is there is no way to control all of something. I can’t say lock all locks or turn off all lights. It also don’t know anything about the rooms I setup in Vera, instead wanting you to setup groups manually in Alexa.

You can go to the invitation link again to to change the devices at any time.

In the Alexa Smartphone App you can create groups of things, like all the lights in 1 room, and then tell Alexa to turn of those room lights.

You can unlock doors, just create a scene and use luup code for unlocking.

After you login but before you connect to your controller, you can click the down arrow in the upper right hand corner of the screen too and access the section to add or delete devices and scenes from Alexa.
