Alerts Are no longer working

I have been using the combination of the Vera Alerts plugin and VeraMate Alerts Plugin to get notifications on my iPhone. This has been working fine for quite some time but something is now broken and all alerts are not working. However I can go into the VeraMate plugin and send a test and it works AND I can also send a test from within the Vera Alerts plugin and it too works. Yet “real” alerts do not show up. I do see in the Vera Alerts plugin the time stamp of the last sent alert and it looks right to me. Copied here - Plugin-Forwarding10:33:55 Mon Sep 26. Any help getting this working again would be great.

I’m running firmware - 1.7.2139
Vera Alerts - 7.15
VeraMate 1.0

Are you getting messages about exceeding license ?
I can see you have users that are not mapped to a profile … it will try to create profiles for these … and they will count even if they do not work.
You can map all the other users to some dummy profile.

Richard - I’m not 100% sure I understand what you’re saying but I just deleted two of the users and it still does not work. I have NOT received any warnings about exceeding licenses, but I only have one profile anyway, all Vera Alerts are using the port forward feature to the VeraMate plugin.

I should also mention that I’m still getting the blue banner error - ERROR : Error in lua for scenes and events

Which I have been getting now since two firmware upgrades ago yet the LUA code in my PLEG still works fine.

You will need to turn on logging for Vera alerts … and other plugins if they support it … And monitor the Vera log to see what the problem is.

OK so I turned on debug logging in Vera Alerts and fired off a scene that should alert me. Got no alert and clicked on Display Log in your GUI and the pop up that opened says "ERROR:Molule not found:cgi-bin

Put the info in the VERA log file and then look at the VERA log file.

Although it looks like some files were deleted on your system.

I have yet to pull a log file as I need to learn how to do that. But it seems to me that Vera Alerts is attempting to send the message to the VeraMate plugin but then it just dies.

With a little more testing I have found that sending a test message from Vera Alerts shows a good time stamp in both the Vera Alerts and VeraMate Alerts plugins. But causing a “real” alert to be triggered I get the correct time stamp in ONLY Vera Alerts and nothing in the VeraMate Alerts plugin.

Here is an expert of my log file after executing turning on and off a virtual multi switch that was set to alert. I also have Vera text messaging set up and I get text’s for all multi switch state changes but never an alert.

Does not get to the Vera Alerts code … but the following looks like some type of problem.

Richard,

Where can I send that dump to you, the messaging system here won’t work, the file is too big.

Had exactly the same error. When debugging, the culprit appeared to be an apostrophe in different properties. Removing the apostrophe in the device name and notification name solved the “Error in Lua scenes and events” blue box message and fixed the notifications. Extract from the (autogenerated?) function containing the error (in this case: Bart’s):

function event_7()
--[[StartVeraAlerts]]luup.call_action('urn:richardgreen:serviceId:VeraAlert1','DeviceNotification', {Msg='Whenever Smoke Sensor Bart's Room is armed and detects smoke', Name='Smoke in Bart's Room', Description='Whenever Smoke Sensor Bart's Room is armed and detects smoke', DeviceID=105, HouseModeMask=undefined, Service='urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:SecuritySensor1', Variables='', Recipients ='MyPowerUser'}, 37)--[[EndVeraAlerts]]
end

This error is caused by MCV bug they say they are still working on it.
My design (UI5 thru early UI7) URL encoded some data. And my APP URL decoded these. The interface was designed to contain URL encoded data.

MCV in there wisdom violated universal software design principals … they URL decoded data that they did not encode.
My suspicion is that they messed up the software on one of the mobile platforms … that added an extra level of URL encoding … and to solve it they added a URL decoding of data to the server.
All existing web clients now inadvertently get their data corrupted.

It’s been the source of problems with Scenes for the last 3 Firmware releases.

Richard did you get my email with the dump you requested…?

There are NO notifications defined on MultiSwitch Device #605

Just to close out this thread, I was able to get everything working normally again. The issue was poor encoding in the recent firmware where non-standard characters either in device name or message override were not encoded correctly. This caused the blue banner error that many have reported here over the last few months. In my case I have two instances of iPhone locater and the device names were somewhat created by iCloud and they both had “(*)” as the start on the device name. Fixing that solved my problems.
