Would the Aeon Labs DSC27103-ZWUS - 300W In-Wall Micro Dimmer Module - US Frequency be appropriate to control a ceiling fan if it draws less than 300W?
The fan is a simple Hunter 3 speed model with no lights. I do not have a wall switch controlling the fan. The fan is directly wired to power and we use a pull chain to control the fan.
My plan is to install the micro dimmer module in the power line running to the fan.
To adjust the fan speed, the plan would be to set up three scenes with the Vera controller with the micro dimmer at 100%, 50% and 25% power and use a GE remote to trigger a particular speed.
Vera Lite, 4 switches (GE and Evolve), 2 outlets (GE), 1 GE outdoor switch module, GE 45600 remote
DO NOT CONNECT A DIMMER TO A FAN. Unless the dimmer states that it can be hooked up to a ceiling fan. You could cause damage to the fan and the switch.
There is a Leviton Vizia RF+ fan speed controller: VRF01-1LZ. However, if you only have one circuit to the fan and also want light control - you’re out of luck.
Otherwise, you may be able to get a speed control specific to that fan. I’m stuck with one of those because I need both fan speed + light dimmer, but only have 1 power feed to the fan.
You could also go the Alsteon route, and install a Fanlinc above the fan. That gives you both light and fan control. The cost isn’t too crazy either, compares to the Leviton VRF01.
VRF01 = $130
PLM = $75
Fanlinc = $70
Total = $145
From then on, each additional fan is just $70, so by fan #2, you have saved $45 over buying 2 VRF01s. Also, a bunch of Insteon stuff is cheaper too, and they have a dimming outlet.
I should note i don’t have any Insteon stuff, but I have considered it.

This is exactly what I did for the fan route. Installed a few keypad lincs for scene control as well.

I currently have Veralite and only z-wave devices. Could I install this fanlinc to control my new fan without installing any other insteon devices/software?
