I am sure most of you are aware, but wanted to share just incase…
Just received an email back from Aeon Labs stating they will be releasing their Zwave LED light bulb in March 2014- no pricing as of yet, but seems to be a good alternative to the Philips Hue system…
here is the Link:

Thx
Encouraging. Considering I am new to Z-Wave and have not replaced any switches yet, this may be a reasonable alternative.
Very nice. I’m a satisfied Hue user, but I might use these lights instead in some situations. I hope that they’ll match the quality of Hue, producing good white light of sufficient brightness, and that they’ll beat the Hue’s price.
Seems to be slew of LED lighting options coming out next year… I saw this system in my local Home Depot today and at more than half the price for the starter kit than Philips HUE ($49.99 Canadian 2 LED bulbs and gateway/hub- thats 150 bucks cheaper than HUE, bargain!) - there extra bulbs are also around the $25 range- this begs the question what radio standard are they using… wonder if someone on here can create a plugin- now thats a challenge ;). check this link out…

anyone up for the challenge to create a plugin… if its compatible with vera?
thx

Do a quick search for mi-light it’s considerably cheaper than the hue lights and there is already a plugin created so you are half way there.

The “manufacturer” website.
CNET Video review.
Nice in-depth CNET Review
These kits use the 6LoWPAN protocol, probably over 2.4GHz like WiFi/Zigbee/BlueTooth, to transmit what are most likely proprietary instructions. Yet another very expensive light bulb with proprietary controls. These manufacturers just don’t "get " it.

Your right, such a shame these companies bring out their own standards… really limits them to a wider audience. I took a look at the Mi-Light site (also looks appealing)- http://www.philippinestuffs.com/milight-wifi-controlled-light-bulbs/ - not sure on the aftersales side if there was an issue with them, thats my only concern. One things for sure, everyone seems to be jumping on the band wagon trying to copy or better the HUE setup- IMHO I hope it drives down the cost for the HUE bulbs- At least this works well within MCV. I would still be very interested in the AeonLabs price point… seems to have the zwave chip enbedded- so a much easier/cheaper inclusion to a rubust Vera setup.
This is likely a dumb question, but with these due next month I thought I’d ask anyway.
If the lights are turned off at the switch, are they still able to be controlled via a scene (ie, turned on anyway)? Kind of renders them a bit useless if not (at least from a WAF perspective).

If the power is switched off, then there is no way to turn on or control the bulbs wirelessly.
@frazerkerby @brettow… Instead of “getting halfway there”, just use the fantastic plugin already created for the TCP connected bulbs. Below is the forum link for the plugin and the plugin is named TCPLighting in the app store.

The TCP bulbs have a nice soft white output and are plenty bright. They only dim from the plugin/app, but that is the case with any bulb.
I have some ge link bulbs connected to a wink hub as well and I can tell you that the TCP bulbs and plugin are about 3x faster to reply to a command than the wink based ones.
