Anyone have any experience using this device?
I have a number of outside lights that are currently controlled by GE/Jasco ZWave On/Off switches. But I’m planning to install WiFi IP cameras at these locations as well as floods lights so I’m going to need power on full time.
I’m thinking about hard wiring the current switch locations so the outside boxes will be hot all the time. This way I can provide power to the cameras. But I only have the one A/C cable to each location so I need a way to control the on/off function of the lights. I’m thinking of installing the Aeon Labs Aeotec DSC26103-ZWUS Z-Wave Micro Switch at the remote box as well to provide ZWave control of the current lights under Vera.
These boxes are generally at the extremities of the house under the eaves so for the most part they are a good distance from the central part of the house where the Vera is located. Any thoughts on reliability of the signal with these little devices? (I’ve also got the parts coming for the external antenna modification for the Vera Lite so I expect I’ll be getting a fairly strong signal just about everywhere.
The outside boxes are in the eaves under metal lath and are just standard metal boxes. I’m thinking about installing larger waterproof plastic boxes on the surface to give me more room for for the electronics, the camera power adapter, etc. to eliminate the Faraday Cage effect for the ZWave.
Thoughts?
