About to be new to Alexa, have VeraPlus. Question about "displaying" objects

I have an Alexia on the way and was reading this forum for some info prior to receipt.

As I read I see I am definitely missing something. Many posts use the term “display” or devices are “offline”

The Echo I’ve seen at some friends house only talks. Is there a app or web control page involved?

Yes, there is an “Amazon Alexa” app for Android/iPhone. It is used to install the skills needed to communicate with devices. I also has control buttons (on/off) for your devices.
