2Gig Go Control Alternative?

This question may just show my ignorance of the subject, but here goes: I currently have a security system setup with a 2Gig Go! Control controller. As has been discussed here at some length, that particular controller can’t integrate with the Vera to any real extent. So my question is this: is there a different controller I could use instead that would allow me to use my existing security sensors (motion control, door, keychain remote), but that would integrate with the vera, allowing me to have a similar setup to the go control on the security side of things, but allowing me to use the vera for zwave control? My main goal here is to be able to get the full control ability of the vera, tied into the security system enough that the vera can detect when the security system is armed/disarmed and activate scenes accordingly. Also I don’t want to have to pay a third party to get internet access to my system when the vera can provide that directly. What security product would people here recommend? Thanks.

So should I take the silence here to mean that there are no other security systems that would be compatible with both my Vera and my existing security sensors? If so, could I at least get some recommendations as to what security system that is compatible with vera is going to be best in terms of cost and ease of use for a small installation (two doors, motion sensor, fire, and maybe, at some point, one or two additional)? Thanks.

Perhaps if you described your existing security sensors in more detail we would have a better idea of if they could be kept. As it is, this forum doesn’t have a lot of users of the 2gig system, so we only know what you tell us. That might account for the silence.

Every time someone asks about the best choice for a Vera-compatible security system the answer is: start by looking at the DSC panel. Of all panels, it has the most active community on the forum. Chances are that your question has already been asked and answered many times.

Hi ibrewster,

I feel that your question has been already answered through a lot of other similar conversations on this forum concerning 2Gig and Vera. You didn’t say what kind of sensors you have (wired, zwave?). I also used to have the 2Gig setup, uninstalled it after a week due to its laughable limitations (unless used with alarm.com). I currently have a DSC1616 panel and it plays wonderfully with Vera. That would be my personal recommendation.

Thank you both for the replies. My apologies if this had been asked before: in my searching, all I found was several discussion threads on how the 2Gig control DOESN’T work with the vera, with various attempts to find workarounds, but with no suggestions for replacement alternatives. As far as the sensors go, all I know is what I already said: Two door sensors, a motion sensor, and a fire/smoke detector, all of which work with the 2Gig Go control Panel. If I new what more to say about them, I’d be glad to. I can say they aren’t z-wave, otherwise I’d just add them to the vera directly.

I’ll definitely take a look at the DSC series of panels. Thanks for the suggestions, and again my apologies if i’ve offended anyone with my ignorance of the subject.

Most likely the sensors that work with your 2Gig alarm panel will not work with other alarm panels. Most of the systems that are able to use wireless sensors only work with that brand of panel. Wired sensors are of a different story. You will most likely have to upgrade both the alarm panel and sensors if you want integration with vera.

Thank you, that’s what I was afraid of. Oh well - still, probably worth it!
