Zwave stuff I want that I can't buy

  1. An accelerometer. I would like it to distinguish vibration from gross movement.

  2. An alarm that can be addressed to make a variety of pleasant, non-alarm sounds.

  3. An IP66 rated illumination sensor that I can point at the sky.

I am amazed that no one has produced #2.

I like this thread! You could maybe use sonos/mp3 for #2.

I’d like to see:

Inexpensive pressure mat
Gate lock or padlock
Soil sensors that detect moisture and sunlight
Keypad

Yes! That’s on the list for my soil sensors, just have to have the time to actually get them put together and working. I’ve looked into some of the non zwave commercial sensors but they’re just crazy expensive vs the DIY approach.

#2 makes sense, I do use a Sonos for that at the moment

For the rest, my needs are much more basic:

  1. a decent in wall scene controller. Choice in Europe is poor and what’s there looks like poo, so in the end I hand crafted something using a MySensors setup.

  2. a dimmer with a knob instead of crappy up/down buttons. This would greatly increase the WAF of these things. Again I am tempted to just hack a standard dimmer with an Arduino and MySensors radio.

They are shipping to the US. I got two of the motion sensor+temp sensor+light sensor W/ accelerometer from Vesternet: Smart Home Automation - Z-Wave & Zigbee Products, their US distributor.

They’re attractive, tiny, work great and install without a lot of drama, unlike the Aeon Labs 4-in-1 sensors they replaced. But (there is always a but) it takes a special version of the Vera UI5 to support them AND there is no accelerometer support in the special UI5. UI7 I don’t know.

And they can’t replace the Aeon’s since there is no humidity sensor. I need a humidity sensor for the bathroom fan. I have a 4-in-1 and it’s worthless since it eats through batteries. Supposedly their Gen5 model does better… but hey, guess what??? (See, there’s that BUT again). Vera doesn’t fully support it yet. Oh wait… I thought Vera supported ANY Z-wave certified device ::slight_smile:

@ TC1 - I agreed 100%, they are all marketing and no results. They wanted me to give them credit card info to order stuff to which I said when will you have this available on your website, 6 months ago I was told in a month. Since, they are not having a ecommerce established in US makes me reluctant. I have moved on to Veralite and happy with it.

They wanted me to give them credit card info to order stuff to which I said when will you have this available on your website, 6 months ago I was told in a month. Since, they are not having a ecommerce established in US makes me reluctant. I have moved on to Veralite and happy with it.[/quote]
