I was curious if there was a dimmer option that can be used without wiring into the socket. I know this might not make sense but I am in a house that I will not stay in too much longer, and since I am not an electrician I would hate to pay someone to install all my lighting dimmers through the house and then have to rehire them to remove all of them and replace in next home.
Maybe there is another way I am not thinking about?
Yes - you could use wireless-controlled LED lamps (LimitlessLED/MiLight/easyBulb). See: about the lamps and about plugins.
As well as the wirelessly controlled bulbs that @RexBeckett linked to, there are a couple of Z-Wave options.
[ol][li]GE 45602 Z-Wave Technology Lamp Module Dimmer just plugs into a regular outlet.[/li]
[li]Intermatic/Homesettings Screw in Module is On/Off only and should not be used in overhead cans.[/li][/ol]
Beyond these three choices, I think, you will have to do some wiring.
Is there a less expensive version of the hue then? That does similar functions?
Otherwise if i go the wired route does any have the ability to:
Motion sensor built in, set dimmer options by time (at 10pm dim to 90% then by 11 turn off), and ultimately siri integration with siriproxy?
