I have a dumb question… If my Alarm system (Ge Simon XT) is zwave compatible… Assuming that it will send a zwave command when I come in the front door… Will Vera know when it sends the zwave? i.e. can I have the Simon via zwave tell Vera to run a scene?
I am new to z-wave, and I have the same question for my alarm - Go!Control from APX. I’ve just installed Kwickset z-wave locks and a bunch of light switched. Want to tie it all together. I would love to hear how it’s done. I’ve picked up bits and pieces, but cannot find a comprehensive guide to tie it all together.
Not exactly sure how the Ge Simon XT would trigger scenes in Vera, either it is added as a device or as a secondary scene controller I am guessing. Vera won’t “hear” the Z-Wave commands until there is some kind of association established.
the Go!Control product is from 2Gig Tech and it can either take the place of Vera and give you simple control, or it can be set up as a secondary controller to Vera. You would add it to Vera like to would any other secondary controller, by replicating the network stored in Vera to the Go!Control Box and then probably creating scenes in its interface.
Ok, then if you can add The Ge Simon XT system as a secondary controller (I am somewhat new to zwave although I have had a vera for about a year), then does Vera know when a secondary controller does something which could then trigger a scene? Not sure I really understand secondary controllers… I will also want to had scene controllers (the Leviton kind) as well some day but dont understand how they integrate.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it scenes can be created in Vera and then added to a scene controller and assigned to appropriate buttons on said controller. Then when scenes are activated on that controller, they trigger scenes in Vera (or they fire off the ‘copied’ scenes on their own and Vera was just a source to copy from…not positive what exactly is happening, but in Vera you are setting an event to occur when a scene is activated, so I assume it is triggered in Vera and Vera sends the scene command).
Alternatively, the entire network can be replicated to a secondary controller and then you can set up scenes using the secondary controller (scenes would be independent from Vera, but using common devices).
