Okay, so my FedEx man brought me my 3 new ZIR000 motions sensors today. Opened the package, read over the ZIR instruction sheet (confusing as hell, by the way), checked the forums for tips, then got started. I inserted the batteries, pushed the button on my dongle, pushed the little black button inside the ZIR, and got a fast flash on the dongle. So far, so good. I moved the ZIR to where I plan on using it, went inside and plugged the dongle in. It showed up in devices as a motion detector. Still good. Told Vera to go ahead and add it. No bueno. Getting a message that says ‘command failed’ when I tell it to configure now. Am doing a heal right now, and am somewhat dismayed to see a butt-load of red cogs…
Are there step-by-step instructions somewhere for noobs adding ZIR000 sensors? It’s apparently one that ‘works’ with Vera, so there must be a way to do it.
I don’t have one, but I think you are supposed to ‘add’ the device where its final resting place will be. Sounds like you ‘moved’ it after adding it to the network.
Kinda/kinda not… I paired the unit with the dongle on my desk, but I didn’t plug the dongle into Vera until the detector was mounted. If anyone thinks that was a bad move, I’ll re-do it.
Might not be the same, but my 3-in-1 won’t ever configure unless I bring it in and sit it on top of Vera while it does its configure thing. It takes a while to complete, too. Then I take it back outside to its place on the deck. Seems to work. If I do a “Repair network” I have to bring the dang thing back in again for some one-on-one time with Vera.
Something to look at is how long did the process take - when the batteries are pulled and put back the ZIR000 wakes up for 10 minutes - that is the same when you push the blue button button on the HSM100 (wakes up for 10 minutes). Try pulling the batteries and telling Vera to add it again
Starting to HATE these motion detectors. >:( Dropped about $180 on 3 ZIR000’s, and can’t get a green cog to save my life. Added/removed/readded with the unit in place, with the unit sitting on top of Vera-NOTHING works. Submitted a trouble ticket-black hole. If I ask Vera to poll the unit or configure now, I get a ‘delivery failed’ message.
Getting a little frustrated, since I’ve spent an awful lot on a system (in it’s current state) that’s barely an upgrade from a bunch of lamp timers.
Can anyone post a screenshot of your configuration details for a working ZIR unit? I’d appreciate the hell out of it!
Well… Got them working. Laid all three on my desk, each with one battery out. Went like this: Put remaining battery in, disincluded using the dongle. Plugged the dongle into Vera, let it get up to running speed. Yank the dongle, include the sensor by holding down the include button for about 5 seconds. Plug the dongle back into Vera, let it figure out there’s something new to add, change the name to something useful, save, then continue. While Vera is trying to configure, alternate between holding down the include switch and the cover-activated switch on the sensor. Viola! 60% of the time, it works every time.
