Z-Wave Range Extender - Do they work?

I have just installed a fibaro 2x1.5kw module in the workshop to find i think it might be out of range. I have a switch module about 10m away but i have a wall inbetween.

Do you think a range extender will fix my problem?

Can i move me vera edge closer to test?

Thanks
N

A range extender is nothing more than a Z-Wave device that supports beaming.
It’s only useful if there is no need for another device.

For a little more $ you can install a wall switch or socket.

I just had some experience with something similar. I installed a couple door sensors on my shed doors (after including them on the bench) but vera but then they became very unreliable, sometimes vera would see them but mostly they would be reports as offline/beyond range.

I bought an aeotec range extended (don’t have the model handy) and installed on a back wall outlet inside the house closest to the shed. I was dissapointed at first because nothing i tried would clear the “out of range” condition, but after letting it be for a while, all of a sudden, vera reported that both sensors were responding again. And they haven’t dropped ever since (about a couple weeks now). So i would attribute that to the extender doing what it supposed to do.

However, like was said above, if i needed a plug-in module on that back wall where i installed the extender, i would have tried that first. Would have probably killed two birds with one stone!

Even if you didn’t want something like bulky like this for only 19.99

You could get a sleek in wall

Or even a light switch. would have done the trick.

Like you said kill two birds with one stone and for price of one.

Saving for the future - Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. So would I get the same benefit if I bough a fibaro relay and install it in between the working zwave switch and the nonworking zwave switch?

Thanks
Nick

Yes.

The only difference with an extender is that they have removed the load or switch part. Every non battery z-wave device is a repeater or extender.

What a school boy error. I took another module with a light attached with a plug and plugged it in to check if it was the range and it worked. Shocked I thought the installed module was broken so I began taking it out and realised the jump cable from live to supply live on the fibaro module wasn’t screwed in. Screwed it in and boom, we have working lights

Thanks all

Hi
Adding an external Antenna to Vera Edge works great.
