Z-Wave network stops working after a while

All of a sudden, my Vera 3 (on UI5) has become rather unreliable. I have not made any changes to my setup recently, and the unit has been operating very well for the past months / years. What happens is that at some point, all Z-Wave communication from Vera stops working. Incoming messages are still processed (such as sensor readings), and stuff operated through plugins continue to work (like Hue lights), but any command sent to a Z-Wave device will time out and fail.

I used to have a imilar condition from time to time in the past, apparently it is a known problem when using a lot of Danfoss TRVs. In that case, I had to reboot Vera to get everything to work again, but that condition only happened once a month or so. Recently I am getting Z-Wave blockages several times a day. The strange thing is: in this case restarting the Luup engine is enough to clear the problem.

I don’t see anything strange in the log files, at least I am getting the same messages when everything is ok and when Z-Wave is broken. At this point I have no idea where to look, especially since nothing has been changed recently. No new devices or plugins added.

Perhaps it is a sign that it is time to buy a Vera Plus

Maybe do a clean install from backup? I’m not sure what you would need to do to force a reinstall of the firmware.

Yeah maybe I’ll go for the Plus now. I do hope I can still upgrade this Vera to UI7 so I can import a backup on the Plus, as I do not relish tbe thought of having to rebuild my network with many devices and complex scenes from scratch :frowning:

I think you’ll find that problems are created when you do that.

But either way you’ll be lucky if the problems you are guaranteed to have are atleast minor.

I believe you can import a ui5 backup into ui7 on VeraPlus. If you can’t , vera support can, as they did it for me.

While UI7 isn’t great for larger systems, ALTUI and the new zwave hardware is nice.
