Z-wave Network is Gone!

Here’s a copy of the text from the support request I just sent. Being Friday night, I thought I might get a quicker response here. Version is 3.20 L:1.

Vera has lost contact with every device in the z-wave network. At first, every lock had a yellow question mark over the battery icon. I could open the settings, but not change any of the lock codes. I’m not sure if I could have logged into the thermostats or not because I didn’t try. When I tried to heal the network, none of the devices (locks, thermostats, or lamp modules) came back online.

I can log into the controller remotely and locally. There does not appear to be a problem with the ethernet connection to the router. I have reset the z-wave chip twice. I have rebooted Vera locally, remotely, and by manually unplugging the power for over 1 minute.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

I can also add logs if someone tells me where/how to find and copy them.

Performing a restore from a last known backup and checking restore zwave dongle, might do the trick for you. The odds of getting support on a Friday night are pretty slim.

@SuperflyMD: Did the restore solve your problem?

I have exactly the same. My Vera is in the state Updating ZWave Network, all devices are marked red. No command is executed. >:(

A restore solved the problem…

As an engineer I would not say this is a solution, it’s a fix. The real question/problem is why this is happening! It’s like rebooting windows and saying “problem solved”, but you didn’t, you just postponed it to whenever… Therefore I think this kind of problems should be further investigated by micasaverde…

I can’t agree more!

@SuperflyMD, @huwu,

IIUC, in both your cases your Z-Wave devices still appeared on Vera’s dashboard, but communicating failed with them.

Could you state which Vera you have, what Vera firmware is running (e.g. 1.5.408) and which Z-Wave version (3.20 or 2.78)?

Vera 2
1.1.1245 (not most recent, but didn’t update because it wasn’t broke–now don’t want to until after I’ve finished with tech support)
