I noticed a small self contained module on my Z-Wave thermostat which looks to be the Z-Wave chip. It’s soldered to the board and this got me thinking. Is it possible to buy some US modules not available here such as locks (Europe) and switch Z-Wave module for a European one?

Or is the module programmed with device specific data?

You could replace the zwave module with one that was right for your Country. But it would not work as the module contains the microcode to run the device.

You can buy modules from Digikey but as said before it wont contain the code for the device.
