I am having a problem with z-wave inclusion on my Vera Plus. Never had this problem in the past. When I try to include a z-wave product, the chip gets stuck. I’m not sure how Vera support knew that the chip was stuck. But one way to tell is that the reset z-wave chip function stops working. Then I can restore a backup to get the reset z-wave chip function to work again. But it gets stuck again as soon as I try to include a z-wave device.
I worked with support for a couple hours, trying to load previous backups. But nothing resolved the issue. The last thing that the support guy suggested is to do a reset z-wave network which would exclude all of my z-wave devices. Obviously this isn’t something I want to do. A lot of my z-wave devices are screwed into a wall. And I have one everspring z-wave light socket that is 30 feet in the air. It will be a PITA to get it back down to ground level to re-include it.
Does anyone have any ideas that I can try that doesn’t require wiping out my z-wave network?
Is your zwave network still working? Is the chip stuck only for inclusions? If so I would try to get another zwave controller (can be another vera), transfer all the data to the other controller, reset the first one and transfer the zwave network data back…
Yes, the z-wave continues to operate my devices. Right now, everything is working. Just can’t include any new devices.
Isn’t this the same as taking a backup and restoring it? I would try it if I had another controller. Unfortunately I don’t. I’d probably go ahead and reset the z-wave network before paying $100+ for another controller.
A power cycle may do the trick. If the hardware is stuck, the power-on reset function should clear it. I’d unplug the power from the back of the unit, and wait 30 or more seconds, juts to make sure the internal power supplies have discharged.
Good questions. Yes, I have cycled power several times and didn’t help. I was in a cycle of trying different backups going back months which would set up the network as non-wireless. And then I would switch the unit to wireless network. And then move the unit (recycle the power) to the wall switch to try to re-include it.
The original device with the issue was a GE in wall smart switch. But I also tried to exclude/re-include a AEOTEC Smart switch. I had no trouble exlcuding the AEOTEC switch which I moved to the same location as the Vera. I have the same issue when I try to re-include it.

It may or may not. Because the controller shift actually sends your network to another zwave controller chip, and then moving it back it actually changes not just the data on the chip. It also changes the rest of your network.
