I am assuming that plugin supported devices don’t count against the supported Z-wave device limit of ‘232’. Can anyone verify this assumption? If they are included in this limit I have just created an oop’s issue for myself.
You are correct.
Devices created through plugins don’t count against the Z-Wave imposed limit.
Thank you. That is a relief. Just in the process of adding some more z-wave devices and 2 GEM units and knew that this in total was going to exceed the limit. I should be okay until I can get a VeraPro to take care of the increased processing load.
;D 232 z-wave nodes is only the theoretical limit.
You will find out after installing more than 150 z-wave nodes inside one network that there are other important limits in the z-wave protocol. especially when you have wakeup en flirs (beam) devices in your network… 8)
goodluck!
@ewout
Currently 164 devices plus 34 plugin supported ones and all is well and responsive and very stable. Hope it stays this way.
… keep battery stuff out of your Z-Wave network, and it probably will 8)
For the GEM’s, since you have 2x of these, you may want to prune back the channel update/poll rate. By default, each GEM will deliver all 32x channels of power + 8x temp channels + 4x Pulse… every 5 seconds.
That’s potentially a lot of values changing, and they’ll change “in bursts” as the plugin is delivered all the data at the same time by each GEM.
BTW: @strangely just completed the install of his GEM the other day, so there will be a few of us with these.
Thanks for the GEM hints on polling, I will set them back to a realistic value. I did beef up the network backbone to dual gigabit and put in new top end switches at the drop-offs for the network devices/appliances all of which has lowered the turn around time as well as separating out the wireless AP’s by function. It is a lot more robust than it was before. The Android control panels (4) on the wall all respond well when interacting with vera. Just have to decide on the server approach for the GEM data as I really don’t like pushing it out of my space (control).
Quick question as I am a newbie to zwave. What is a GEM? Thanks.

I’ve got 156 devices (mix of z-wave and plug-in generated devices). I’m running Vera Lite with fw 1.5.408.
I’ve been having lots of problems lately and wondering if I have hit a practical limit of the Vera Lite. When I add new automation scenes or edit existing scenes or devices, the changes are not saved (even though I click save and the messages look ok).
I also seem to be unable to add new plug-ins from the app store – it appears to install correctly, but again no device is saved and when I look at the installed pugins it is not there (and is still available for me to download again…).
At no point are any error messages displayed in the status area of the web page. The only temporary solution I have found is to restore from an older backup, but the problem seems to return a few days later.
Perhaps I have run out of memory or storage space? Any thoughts on what to look for (in the logs), or should I raise a ticket with MCV?
Thanks.
