would a virtual device work?

My alarm system has some z wave control built in, but is very limited. Currently I have it set up to turn on all the lights inside when the alarm is disarmed and it works great when we are just getting home. But it also turns on all the lights when I get up at 4 AM and disarm the alarm. I would like to add some conditional times to the scene for turning on the lights to keep my wife from killing me, but it is not an option with the alarm panel. Is it possible to set up a virtual device that would recieve the z wave signal from the alarm and trigger the scene if it was between certain times? If so, could someone please point me in the right direction. My wife would be very thankful.

Unless the Alarm’s ZWave interface shows up directly in Vera as a node, exposing some standard ZWave interfaces, then the approach you reference may not work.

A Virtual Device in MiOS isn’t “known” on the ZWave Network, it’s completely local to the MiOS unit that defines it so other ZWave-only devices won’t be able to see/control it.

You might be able to do it with a ZWave appliance module though.

In this scenario, you’d have your Alarm Panel “trigger” the On/Off state (Or Dimmer level for a Dimmable ZWave Appliance module) using it’s inbuilt ZWave functionality. You’d then set a standard MiOS Scene against that device, and it would fire next time Vera “polls” it, so you could put in all sorts of complex time-based logic in there. The downside is that it’s responsiveness would depend upon how often/fast Vera ‘polls’ the intermediary ZWave Appliance module, or whether it supports HAIL commands for state-change notification.

btw, what type of Alarm Panel is it?

It would be nice if the vera could listen for commands to the virtual device. I might be able to use a z wave plug, but the polling delay could end up being a problem. Is there a way to force vera to poll it every 5 sec or so? The alarm panel is called a gocontrol by 2gig technologies.

I don’t have one, but there should be a way for Vera to “natively” see the ZWave chip in the GoControl Alarm Panel.

You’d need to speak to the manufacturer about that, but you’d have a lot more control that way, and would completely avoid the need for any of the “middlemen” in the setup.

I’m a little confused about what you mean by natively. The vera sees the alarm panel as a sceen controller and vice versa. I have talked to the tech support people for the panel before and they were pretty helpful, so I’ll give it a shot.

The GoControl should be set up as a secondary controller to Vera.

It is set up as a secondary controller, but for some reason the scenes are not getting transfered to it. I’m guessing it’s because the scenes involve virtual devices that the GoControl is not able to see.

Similar question with a Simon xt. I have the zwave/gsm module and a subscription to alarm.com interactive services. How do I link my Vera to it? I.e have the alarm panel trigger scenes within Vera? I am not looking for ( although would be nice) auto arm or disarm notifications that a true integration would provide, just ability to leverage the zwave alarm integration within the Simon.

My understanding is that the GoControl is not meant to be used as a Secondary and will do some strange things. Not sure of the whole truth but that is what I have been told.

Just a followup on this, I know this is an old thread - sry for ‘bumping’ it.

Has anyone had any success at pairing the Go!Control Panel to Vera? I was looking into getting this but not if the Control Panel won’t ‘talk’ with Vera and vice-versa. Has anyone been able to actually set this up as a secondary controller to Vera?
