Working DVR Recommendation Requested

Hello,
I’m willing to spend around $1,000 to get an 8 camera outdoor DVR system and there are plenty available online but I’ve struck out with multiple brands in trying to get them to work with Vera. I can’t find a single brand that will let me get the URL of the images and stream as they all require an ActiveX plugin for Internet Explorer. Can someone tell me of a brand that they are using or know that it works?

I’ve tried the brands below with no luck.

[ul][li]Swann[/li]
[li]Lorex[/li]
[li]Linin[/li]
[li]Q-See[/li][/ul]

(I’ve also seen in other threads that Defender won’t work either.)

It could also be possible that I’m not understanding everything but it seems like a common free plugin for DVR would have plenty of compatible systems. Any help or realignment in my thinking would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help and time.

I have a Q-See QT428 8 camera system. It works quite well with the mac (still requires a plugin). My version does not provide any mechanism for retrieving images through a URL, and thus I cannot use it with Vera.

I noticed they have newer models that support Google Chrome as well (mine does not). I am not sure if these newer models are more HTTP based that would work for your needs – you may want to contact them to find out.

The Q-See mobile application for iOS (the only one that will work with it) is pretty crappy.

Thanks for the response. I was quiet impressed with many of the models that I tried but I’m not going with anything that I can’t use with Vera.

I have a Q-See and it does work with Google Chrome. I have had it working with many browsers, even Apple safari.

However, I have no idea how to get an image to Vera. I do have a fixed IP address but it is not a camera per se but all cameras and controls.

That has started to be my priority 1 also when selecting new gadgets. ;D

What Swann model DVR did you try?

What did you think of the unit overall and the camera FPS motion on live view in a Quad panel screen?

I want to try a Swann 2600-4 and use the composite video out via a splitter box then out to each of my three flat screen TVs (video input) so I can pull up the quad screen quickly to view front door…if TV is already on.

Thanks

There was no ghosting that I saw and it was pretty quick. My kids had a blast dancing in front of it and were silly. I did notice that there wasn’t much if any lag.

Resurrecting this old thread because it is on point, and a top search result for anyone looking for an answer to this.

Has anyone gotten a DVR working directly (i.e., not BlueIris or other middle-man) with Vera/VeraLite?

I have 6 analog cameras feeding to an Aposonic DVR; and, even though it supports URL-based image fetching from individual cameras… it requires browser identification to serve up the image. When Veralite requests an image via the URL (which works in a browser), Vera doesn’t identify itself in a way the DVR finds satisfactory - and the image doesn’t load.

I’m done trying to troubleshoot my setup - I’m ready to replace my DVR with one that will work with Vera… does anybody know of one? Please include model number.

put a video encoder in front of the DVR and pull the video out there.

something like this: Grandstream GXV3504 IP Video Encoder

you don’t lose the DVR and you can get your video.

I use an Axis 2400+ to digitize my CCTV cameras and Vera seems play nicely with it.

I’ve had integration working with Q-See. However, it’s not true integration since the workaround requires putting your cameras on the same subnet as vera and feeding directly to the vera. See this post: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,15701.0/nowap.html

After playing with several DVRs though, I’ve found blue iris on its own server is definitely a much better way to go if you can make room for it in your budget. Video capture quality is better and since it’s software based, it’s a much more flexible system with more integration options.
