Has anyone seen any good way to do this?

I’ve also used modules from RovingNetworks to do it, although the setup is quite fiddly/technical. The DSC plugin was written wi one of those and an IT100.

If you purchase the USR-WIFI232 Evaluation Board, there is no need for soldering. See here.

This module can be run from simple Lua code in scenes.

Thanks Rex.

How would this work in terms of alarm interface?

The USR-WIFI232 is a general-purpose Wifi to RS-232 interface. The module provides the IP stack for TCP or UDP and can either be a self-contained access point or a station on an existing wireless LAN. You would need to use Lua code in a scene or plugin to send and receive messages to the end equipment.

Thanks! You got me on the right track.

I actually found xbee modules that I can use as wireless serial that do the same thing.

The 2 applications I was looking at this for are:

  • Alarm control
  • Controlling my neato xv-11

Once I play with the neato, I will probably make a build guide and an app of some kind to automate. (It has a really simple text interface that I can send over serial)
