Wired & Wireless sensors working to trigger alarm, but not working w scenes

So I have Vista 20p EVL4 and running Vera Plus UI7. For some reason, no scenes that have any of my wired or wireless sensors seem to work.

I’m trying to create a scene for when any of the door sensors are armed or disarmed and OPENED it sends an alert. I set the scene up, and tested with the PLAY and got the alert, but when run for real, doesn’t work. I know the sensors are good because they are reporting to my alarm panel but not working with Vera

Can you see these door sensors change state in the Vera UI when you open them or close them?

Yes, I can see that it records the opening of the door/sensor - this is when i’m in HOME mode (alarm off) the the wired/wireless sensors are checked ARMED.

The scene is working in HOME mode. I created test scene: Whenever FRONT DOOR is opened whether is armed or disarmed in any mode and it works.

But, when I change the mode to NIGHT only (unselect all other modes), set my alarm to Stay/Night make sure Vera is in NIGHT mode and open the front door, nothing happens. I was watching the FRONT DOOR device/sensor and noticed that it did not change state. So my problem is for some reason when VERA is in NIGHT mode it is not recognizing the change of state of any of the sensors. Again my alarm is working fine, but something seems to be preventing the sensors from changing state when in NIGHT mode (maybe even away mode but i haven’t tested)

I have noticed a few things 1) that my sensors always show “ARMED” not sure if that’s a problem or basically saying that the sensor is reporting? 2) battery level all show 100% i remember a while ago it varied. Maybe something changed the settings of all of my sensor devices?

Does that make sense? Any suggestions?

This makes no sense.
Let’s try to figure out where the problem is.
Leave you alarm disarmed. Put your Vera in Home, check status of door, then open a close to see if status changes. Then do the same thing in night, away and vacation mode and see if the sensor status is incorrect in any of those modes.
Let me know what happens.

yes, I know… lol

Ok so testing more… When the alarm is Disarmed/Disabled and Vera is in each mode the scene works. It seems to just not work when the alarm is armed. So something is preventing the sensor from talking to Vera when the alarm is armed.

Note - whether the alarm is armed or disarmed all of the sensors always show “Armed” when I look at the actual Device in Vera.

Just a thought. Check your Alarm module in Vera and make sure you do not have those door zones set up as motions. It is under Advanced /Variables.

So I checked that, see attached.

I also went into the ADVANCED > VARIABLES tab and this is what was in the “Zones” block, see attached.

(side question - Should the devices always show ARMED?, if not, maybe that is the problem?)

They should not show “Armed” unless you or your Vera arms them.
Check your modes section to make sure they only arm when in the mode you want them to.
Regardless of armed/disarmed state, they should show the correct status.
You said earlier that they show the correct status in all modes when the alarm is disarmed but do not when armed. This makes me think the problem is with the EVL or your alarm.

@nutshellml

YOU asked (almost) exactly the same question (HERE)- Almost two years ago. The answer has NOT changed.

@cybrmage - Yes, that was related to motion detectors, does the same apply to all sensors? When the alarm panel is ARMED all sensors connected cannot be used in scenes? Also what happened to the documentation for your plugin, is it gone with the removal of the plugin too?

Also, the other issue that I mentioned to @jamr was that no matter what mode i’m in, armed or disarmed alarm, the sensors always show ARMED.

Finally, my main reason for asking this question is I wanted to create a scene or something that when the alarm is armed and say a sensor is opened it will alert me (text/pushover/vera alerts) ASAP vs. waiting the 30-45 seconds that the alarm panel is set to wait before setting off the alarm. So if the same goes for the door/window sensors as the motion detectors, this would not be possible, correct?

I install and use DSC panels and EVL’s and do not have this problem. Is this an know inherent problem with his equipment?

I?m not sure. Doesn?t make sense and unfortunately there?s minimal help with the plug in now that it?s removed from circulation.

I?m not sure what the issue could be, so your take is something is wrong either with the plugin settings or the device settings on my Vera?

When you?re alarm is armed you still get the change of state with each door/window sensor? Any thoughts on what else I can trouble shoot.

Not really. I could only recommend to talk to someone else who has it working and compare notes, or call Vera or change out your alarm and add on to DSC or other known working alarm system.
Sorry.

What would you recommend? I have the Vista 20p EVL4 and (now removed) EVL plugin.

Like I mentioned earlier. I install, sell and use the DSC systems.

Gotcha. Thanks for trying to help, I?ll try messing with it or finding someone in the removed plugin section that can help.

Frustrating…
