Will this work for the IT100 to interface with my VeraLite?
Vera needs a Serial connection to the IT100 and there are various ways that this can, in theory, be done. Some are more reliable than others (see discussions), so that’ll come down to your tolerance of problems in the deployment, and your technical ability to diagnose them when they occur (or your tolerance to have them occur)
Network-based connections have been a particular topic of discussion, and we’ve seen a variety of reliability issues in this space (see discussions) depending upon the end-to-end solution/components involved. When I initially worked on the DSC plugin, for example, I used a Wifi-Serial adapter, and while it worked there were definitely issues to getting it to a “production-ready” state.
The default, and most reliable, configuration using an IT100 would be one of the pre-tested USB-Serial ports, via direct attachment to Vera. Putting them in this config will result in the most reliable, tested and trouble-free experience. My Production system is direct-attached to Vera via Serial.
Every other solution introduces some sort of unreliability and/or untested factor.
Most of the existing solutions (pre-tested USB-Serial, WIZnet) have been tried by users here, and discussed in the thread. If it’s not listed/tried, then you’ll be piloting the way by trying it out. If you go this route, then please publishing your findings.
I was looking for a wireless solution so that I didn’t have to have my panel near my router/Vera, but I would prefer the most tried and true method available to me. I haven’t actually bought the IT100 yet so perhaps the Envisalink EVL3 would be a better option for me?
Can you please expand on what you refer to as wireless?
Both the two interfaces will need to be connected to your panel and then have some form of communication with your Vera. This can be for the it100 serial to ip or directly plugged into to your Vera. With EVL3 it needs to be connected to your network either directly or via wifi etc.
The key differences are:
IT100 provide zone name once setup.
EVL3 provides other alternative communication via eyez-on and additional reporting capabilities. It is also firmware updatable. Also local and remote interface capable.
Best option I believe is the later due to what alternative solutions it can provide you. E.g if your Vera fails, your alarm system still can maintain reporting as long as there is external network capabilities.
By wireless I mean the connection between the DSC alarm panel (+IT100/EVL3) and the router/Vera.
Once you have your panel configured, the integration device (either) can be configured to connect to your network via wifi, however, I would would be advisable if you had it connect directly to your router either wired of wifi.
