I’m planning on a Vera system in the near future. But I need to have an electrician install some new switches now. Will the Vizia RF switches work on their own without having a z-wave system set up for now? I’m thinking about the 2 or 4 button scene controller w/ local load, the dimmer, and the fan control.
I am using the Leviton Scene and Zone controllers. I suggest you buy the Leviton Remote and use it to setup your system. You can continue to build your system and use it without the Vera and when you add the Vera use it as a secondary controller. The Leviton Remote is the best way to setup the Leviton products in my humble opinion.

If money is an issue, you could also look into getting one of the cheaper zwave controllers, such as the Intermatic HA07 or the GE (Jasco) hand held controller. You can find these for around $20. And they are handy to have, even after getting a full blown Zwave network.
Radio Shack is selling the GE controllers on closeout. If you can find one, its a good deal.
Great news! I was hoping this would be the case, so the electrician can install the switch and test it, and later I can come back and work on setting up the z-wave network.

Can you elaborate on why you find it better to set up using the Leviton remote versus using Vera 2? I’m willing to buy the remote if it would be useful, but would rather not spend the money if I don’t have to.

I’ll have to check my local RS then. How do they compare to the Leviton remote? What use would I get out of them after getting Vera 2 set up?
The GE remotes can control Leviton dimmers/switches but only a Leviton Remote or Vera2 can setup the associations for the 2/4 button. Once you include it into a network, the buttons no longer control the load until you set the associations.
Please explain how you are able to get all the LEDs and the lower dimmer switch to work by programing the leviton controllers with Vera…
I was unable and would really like to know if it can be done.

Can you wire multiple lighting loads into one switch?
For example, right now I have one switch for 2 lights outside my front door, a second switch for the light at the end of my driveway, and a third switch to control outdoor outlets for christmas lights. Can I plug these all into a single switch to save space on the wall (since I would likely never need to control them separately)?
Yes, as long as you don’t exceed its electrical ratings (wattage, load type, etc.) and provided you could put it on a single regular switch. So it requires some checking.
