Will an HSM100 detect motion through a window?

I’m interested in putting an HSM100 inside the garage and wondering if it will detect motion through a garage window. For example someone walking by the window on the outside.

Anybody with a similar setup?

yup… but sometimes it can have strange effects… for example a fly comes onto your window then it will trigger as the window glass combined with the rounding of the detector cause it to magnify.

Thanks for the info.

I think I will order one and try it. Maybe lower the sensitivity quite a bit and see how it goes.

you could also make it face away from the window… put it on top of the window pointing it inwards

Ideally i would like it to detect if someone walks up to the window on the outside but without false alarms

i use a cam with motion detection for that, but i guess a sensor will also work. i wouldnt know if one can set the angle or intensity of the sensing. i think you have to try it out irl.

Will the cam you use send an alert to vera? If so which be do you use?

That sounds like it maybe a better solution.

Thanks

Thanks

Does it show up similar to a 3 in 1 where it has a motion trigger in Vera?

nop uses its own build-in webpage, but i guess you can make it do this functionality with a 3-1 sensor added and some coding of luup

Glass is opaque to infrared light, unless you use special (expensive) quartz glass. There famously was a Mythbusters episode on it.

or you have double glass windows with built-in thermo-stuff ^^
mythbusters are known to come back to their previous statements as well lol

i love mythbusters (even if they sometimes are talking bull***t)

And the sensor is definitely infrared:
