Hi,
I am quite new into the home autmation and vera world. Currently I am running a Vera 3 with UI7. I got Light Dimmer, Door Lock and Milight (with the plugin).
My next step is to add blinds. Current one are manual and needs to be replaced since parts are broken. While replacing them I want them to be motorized and integrated with Vera.
I am looking for blinds like this : http://www1.americanblinds.com/blinds/window_shadings/P-105395
Windows is 54inch wide and 62 inch height
I am open in brand and everything and some DYI, all I need is this look (Wife is firm on that point )
I got a power outlet nearby but I’d prefer not to see the wire.
Here’s my list of questions
SHould I buy the blind with the motor built-in ? I have found some on Aliexpress running 12v motor
If Yes
a) What kind of controller is recommended ?
b) How do you guys run wire to it ? What kind of Wire ?
If No
A) What motor should I go ? 12v, 24v DC or 110V AC ?
B) Skill required to integrate motor into the shade ? and time estimation to do it (2h project or 5 day project ?)
Anyone having shade running them under UI7 ? Any issues ?
Favorite store in north america to buy required component ?
I saw you send me a message, but I prefer to send it here so other can see it too.
The seller you saw on my other post on AliExpress sell pretty much everything you need. When I purchased my electric curtain with the rail, I asked the seller to have 120v motor instead of 250v. He ordered some motors from Dooya and when he received them, he sent my order to my home.
For the question about how to hide the motor wire, I only made a hole in the wall next to motor after installation and pass the motor wire in a cable plate cover without the cable thing in the center. Look clean and finish.
I just saw the model you posted in your post. Send a message to the seller with the picture of the shade model (picture from the website link) and the width and the height of each of your screen on a sheet. He will make you a group price and send you the order all at once to save on shipping cost.
He can make custom size shade and model for really cheap.
Just to be sure to tell him that you want to control the motor with your home automation Hub, that way, he will put 4 wires motors instead of 3 wires motor that normally control with a remote control. This type of curtain can be integrate with Vera too, but no % control. Only full open and close.
Thanks, He is the first one I have contacted. But he was offering 2 wire DC12V motor. Since as saw a ton of option here I am lost in what is good and not good.
Currently James Smith (from Friend Group) offered me :
The motor is DC12V or DC24V,
so it has two wires, one is Positive wire, one is Negative wire.
Since you motor is 120v, did you hook it directly in the gang box of a wall plug ? Since I do not master english completly I am not quite sure about the wall plate part. Can you give me further detail, are we talking about a cable raceway down to the plug ??

But it says 3 wire installation and I am not quite sure it works for 12v motor … Again thanks for your answer it is really appreciated[/quote]
No, the product you posted wont work with your motor. The product you post control a motor On / OFF only but You cannot control the duration of the motor ON. Also, your motor doesnt have the wires needed. You need something like in this link, but please verify with the seller first or better, get a picture of the motor and the end of the wires, that way we will be 100% sure :
Exemple, for the living room, if you have like 4 or 5 windows to cover, you can wire them all together and need only need one this controller. (just verify it doesnt overload the maximum rate of the controller.)
Else, to reduce the cost, if you dont need % opening, but only open or close, you can ask the seller if he have a rf motor controlled by a remote. That way, you only need power to the shade and you can then open/wire the remote to two relays to control the open and close of the shades.
In the meanwhile, PeterLuc, The friend group replied me that they cannot make the blinds I want with 120v motor.
I found another supplier perhaps who can give me 120V motor RF built in. Remote specs says 433.92Mhz. Research point me to that RFXUSB thing (Amazon.com)
Searching the forum on that I see plugin exist but that the use can vary a lot not specially blinds. Anyone wanna sharre their experience with that (I do not really need %, But I need to says Open so it goes up to the top and stop, down stop a the right closed position, and have a stop button to stop it let says in the middle)

I cannot guaranteed the operation with the 433 band and the plugin. I dont have that at home, but seem to work pretty well from feedback of other users.
In your situation, I would go with the other sellers with the RF control and then see if it would work to control it with the RF module. Much easier setup.
If it doesnt work, there is always other way to make it work with the remote and relay, etc.
