I was interested to know what tablets people are using for imperihome.
I was lucky enough to be part of the beta testing team and noticed that when using the front camera to wake the tablet it would de charge faster than the tablet would charge hence it’s not a feature I’ve been able to use on my wall mounted tablet (I am using a cheap tablet but it still seems a strange problem). I want to change my wall mounted tablet to something that can take full advantage of the wake up camera option hence wanted to see what people are using in the real world so I can spend my money with confidence (I’m going to install at a least two wall mounted tablets hence want to ensure they play nicely with the feature).
I suspect with my current tablet it’s just a quirk of the tablet as it has a high output charger and still can’t keep up.
I use a Lenovo A1 which I got cheep from china, replaced the Chinese firmware with a custom firmware. I have not tried the camera feature yet I use no standby and just keep it on 24/7. Seems like this would be a better option for you also. I’ll try the camera feature now and let you know how it works.
Update: I could not get my tablet to wake up at all so I guess this feature does not work on my device.
In my experience with my Asus OG Transformer and my OG Nexus 7 (I haven’t tried with my 2013 model) is that it only ever just blacked out the screen. It didn’t actually turn the screen off which for me made this feature completely useless. Maybe it has changed since then, but since I don’t know of any tablets that use AMOLED screens* I have no plans of using this feature (thought I want to).
*AMOLED screens don’t have a backlight and producing a pure black screen uses the same power as turning off the screen since it just turns off black pixels.
Yes I’d noticed that hence why my battery levels head straight to the floor. What is odd though is that if the tablet is in use its possible to run it from the charger and it keeps up, however with the wake camera function the battery and charger can’t keep up. I even tried setting it up so that it came on to charge every 30 mins but the charger can’t cope at all with the camera wake up turned on so it must be pulling a lot of power somewhere.
If anyone is using a tablet with the wake feature and it stays up then id really like to know what you are using so I can test one out.
Not sure if this is useful for anyone but I finally resolved the issue. By chance after sometime of not using the tablet as I’ve been busy with other things I picked it up to see if I could resolve the problem and in doing so plugged it into the same charger but with a different USB lead. I noticed that the charge rate was fine and that the tablet would keep up with use.
It would appear the lead supplied with the tablet did not let it charge fast enough, I’ve ordered another USB lead from ebay and that’s working fine. Root cause seems to of been the USB lead and I’ve done some googling since and it appears that not all usb leads charge at the same a rate. Perhaps I should of known that already but it’s something I know now.

That is because some cables are “charge” cables. They are actually missing the data lines or the data pins are shorted out. This lets the tablet know it is connected to A/C and can charge at full speed. I’ve never noticed this with a “stock” charger and cable (one that comes with a tablet), but often do with aftermarket ones. You’ll notice if you search on Amazon that some USB cables are actually labeled as charging cables and if you plug them into your computer (to transfer data to your tablet or vice versa), the tablet won’t be recognized since there are no data pins in the connector.
I am using two first gen Nexus 7’s with the Asus pogo pin dock. At first I was using the native camera wake but did not like that the screen was actually on the entire time. I ended up using motion, tasker, and secure settings to wake them on camera movement. They have been working great this way.
I’m using a second gen Nexus 7. I bought a cheap snap on back and mounted a Qi charger to it. I then ran electrical and placed an outlet in a recess large enough to contain the USB adapter and Qi charger. Then I mounted the back flush to the wall with 3M tape. I can snap the tablet in and out for regular use at any time.
No, I was not very happy that they leave these forum posts responded while forcing users to go 1 by 1 through their support ticket system. It also hides the number of issues an app has.
Companies that transition to this model tend to have sh#*$y and declining products.
I waste time as the user needing to email when I could find information myself for common issues on a forum they moderate.
