What is the Best Way for Vera to Trigger IR Commands for A/V?

What is the best way with the best compatible devices with Vera to be able to use Vera in controlling Audio/Video equipment, such as in a Home Theater? (and not having an iPhone or iPad).

I have been contemplating on how to do this. I would like to know if anyone knows what devices/equipment to use with Vera 2 that I would need in order to get Vera to trigger IR commands to A/V equipment.

Cheapest compatible IR device would be the USB-UIRT

You would then need to build a plugin (there may already be one in the database for your devices already), and then a remote (within Vera) that can then be accessed by anything with a browser.

I would cave in and buy a iDevice (used or otherwise) though if I was you, and use with SQ remote.
