I see a lot of Z wave items that mention 2 Gig.
What exactly does this mean? and is this something I would or should look for in products that contain this?
Still new and learning, and let me say WOW there is a lot to it all. At first I just thought it was a matter of turning lights on and off via smartphone. But it can be really complex

2GIG is a company owned by Linear that manufactures the Go!Control security panel that has a Z-Wave controller embedded in it. (for a bit of trivia, it stands for Two Guys In a Garage).
If you want to attach the remote ability to connect with it from an mobile device and the ability to integrated it with notifications, automations, etc., you need to get that from one of their third party partners, like Telguard. In most cases this ability from 2GIG is only available from an authorized security dealer that resells these partner’s services.
