Noob question, but what exactly are people using the 2nd ethernet port for on the Vera 2?
I’m one port short on my “real” router so I use Vera’s extra port so I dont need a bigger router
I have mine connected directly to a Dual port WIZnet RS232 to Ethernet adapter, that in turn interfaces with my Alarm (DSC) and a HDMI matrix switch via Vera Plugins.
@ michaelk, so you are using it has a switch. Got it.
@ strangely, Vera can interact with other things outside of z-wave then? Interesting, that is a new concept for me. I too have an HDMI matrix from monoprice but it doesn’t have RS232 connectivity. The only way to control mine is IR.
Yep there are a growing number of plug-ins that cover things like RS232, Ethernet and Zigbee, X10 (X10 is semi native) and other protocols. See below page for the majority that are published:
This specifically is the plugin for the Monoprice matrix switch that I have RS232:

If you look in a lot of our signatures then you’ll see a list things that we have attached to vera one way or another.

I have Vera running some Insteon devices via a PLM on the USB, and a computer running Mcontrol V3 with a serial PML.
For fun you can use Mcontrol to run the MCV over TCIP which can then do the turn on Insteon devices.
It vas VERY good reliability. But I have one X10 light that can only be turned off – ie it responds to an off command, but not an on command – very strange
