What did you do with Vera today?

I bought three more Leviton Z-wave switches. After I install those, I’ll have only one or two manual switches left in the house.

I may be getting close to capacity on my Vera 3 with UI5. I’m noticing some slow-downs after recently adding another PLEG instance. Up to that point, Vera’s been working flawlessly for 6+ months.

This screen shot was taken during a heal. I’ve never really understood how to interpret the System Monitor numbers.

I use system monitor… never seen the first box with the number of devices and scenes…only the second. that’s weird.

looks like we are still both in UI5

Heh, yes, hanging in there. If it ain’t broke…

The first box not part of the System Monitor app, if I remember correctly. I don’t even remember where it came from. I checked the various tabs in the device and it’s not telling me anything about the origin of the plugin.

Digging into this plugin has uncovered some hidden devices & scenes I haven’t accessed since I had them on my Vera 2. Weird.

weird. what version? Mine says .4 , and auto update is on.

Same version here, but my auto-update has been off for a long time. I guess 0.4 is still the latest.

Ah hah! Well done, thanks.

I award you your first smite… which we all know is worth 8 “applauds.”

One of my “weatherproof” gate sensors (from this post) gave in after I changed the battery and didn’t re-seal the box (issues thread here), so I needed to get a new door sensor as well as a better enclosure. I settled on this box from Amazon. Not only are there no fasteners to completely rust out, but there’s also a substantial gasket with plenty of pressure on it when closed.

Here are some photos to show the finished product. The box is bigger, and has more empty space in it, but the color is lighter and it should hold up a lot better.

Installed

I have made some sensors of Arduino Nano, and have connected them to the Vera, works well. Struggling with connection between the Control4 system and the Vera.

Realized I’d left my front door unlocked the whole night. Granted, it’s rare I do and the neighborhood is relatively safe. Also my k9 security system would have alerted me to that door opening and challenged whoever tried to enter but still.

Created a scene on my UI5 Vera that has the door locks to run at 10:30PM to check all door locks and if any found unlocked to send a http request to my UI7 Vera that has the Sonos plugin to run a TTS scene that tells me when a door is unlocked.

I may modify the scene to match the one for my Garage door that I have checking it regularly between 11PM and6AM in case it opens. In which case it will close it.

Seems overly complicated… I just made a scene to lock all doors at 10pm. If they are already locked, it obviously does nothing.

Half the locks in question are manual deadbolts. If Vera can lock those I will bow to her with newfound respect. 8) I’m normally pretty good at locking the doors but it seems CRS may be setting in so that scene is a memory backup more than anything else.

I have scenes that use Sonos to tell me if a door is opened as well since I found out one of my K9’s is smart enough to have figured out how to open the lever lock back door. If I’m away it sends me a notification. I really don’t need the back door open for hours in the Fla heat as that would not be good for the A/C unit.

So many people seem to choose this option. I’m too scared of getting locked out of the house to have automatic or scheduled locking. I’m with BOFH, preferring to alert when unlocked or open past a normal time or duration, and then manually initiate locking, whether that’s remotely via smartphone or by physically closing/locking a door.

Not a problem for locks with keypads. I haven’t carried a house key since I’ve installed them.

Same here.

I don’t use locking on a schedule–my doors lock when I set the alarm. If they’re left unlocked for more than 20 minutes at any point throughout the day, Sonos will let me know.

all my locks are Schlage so they have a keypad so I am not worried about being locked out. But as said 2 of them are manual deadbolts so no way to auto lock them. Hence the notification.

I feel i must be missing something, but how does Vera know the status of the manual deadbolt to trigger the notification? I get that you can have sensors on the doors open but how to get the status of a manual lock? I’m curious because I have a manual deadbolt which I would be interested in knowing it’s status.

The Schlage z-wave manual deadbolt shows locked/unlocked same as the Schlage lever lock. But since it is manual, the lock can’t ‘lock’ the bolt like the lever locks can disengage the external lever. The newer Schlage z-wave motorized deadbolt can lock itself as it has a battery driven motor for the bolt.

Gotcha. They’re not motorized. I’ve seen some pretty impressive workarounds for all kinds of things on these forums so I figured anything is possible. Thanks

Today I took an obsolete Milight White bulb and turned it into a thermometer.

I installed the bulb in the outdoor light next to my front door. I’m checking the temperature with PLEG and when the temperature is within the bounderies I’ve set, the color temperature of the bulb will change.

20?C - 30?C: 2700K
10?C - 20?C: 3500K
0?C - 10?C: 4300K
Below 0?C: 5000k

The outdoor light only turns on after sunset so it never will be over 30C.

The light changes are subtle, but that was the plan. At first I tried it with a Milight RGBW, but I couldn’t get the colors right (there’s no white in that bulb…).
