Hello all,
Newbie to the forum. Recently bought and setup Vera lite, 3 2GIG Technologies zwave thermostats, 18 Intermatic switches/dimmers (CA3000 and CA600), 4 GE remotes and Wayne Dalton wireless gateway. I was able to setup many scenes, schedules and triggers; everything is working well except for the Wireless gateway. I was able to add it to the zwave network and it works fine as a scene controller. The part I am having trouble with is pairing up with the keyfob remote to open the garage door and a gate and also the homelink buttons on our cars. I followed the instructions as per the manual but unable to pair them. In fact it is messing up the existing programming on the homelink buttons. Both the garage door and the gate receivers use rolling codes but the remote gateway is supposed to support it. Anyone using the wireless gateway here had issues with pairing them with other garage door opener remotes? Is there anything I need to do different to learn the rolling codes? I thought I will post here for help before sending the product back. Any help is really appreciated.
I just got one last week, and haven’t had an issue programming it.
Your regular garage door opener remotes won’t work with the gateway, since they are “dumb” devices and not programmable.
You have to use the gateway to “teach” a Homelink button the correct frequencies, etc. and then program that button to a button on the gateway. From that point on, that Homelink button can only talk to the wireless gateway (unless they happen to use the same type/frequency/etc, which isn’t likely).
Using that some procedure is how you teach any “Homelink compatible” garage door or gate opener. You use the official handheld transmitter to “teach” the Homelink button, and then “learn” (program) that new device into the garage door/gate opener.
On a side note: The instructions say “A maximum of 12 remote control transmitters can be programmed to the Wireless Gateway.” What is doesn’t say is how those are allocated. Can they be all 12 to one button? Or 4 to each? I don’t have enough cars (homelink buttons) to try to figure it out, but I don’t think I’l ever hit that limitation.
purdueGuy,
Thank you so much for your help. I was able to program one of the UNUSED homelink buttons on our cars to work with the wireless gateway. Now I have a scene to turns on the breeze way light and carport lights which gets triggered by the homelink button. I was originally trying to use the button that was already programmed for opening the gate so that when I open the gate with that button the scene also gets activated. I guess it does not work that way.
