I’m thinking about monitoring my water consumption. I have found some meters (http://www.watermeters.com) which can be plumbed inline which give 1 wire pulses at a selectable resolution of water passage. My question is, can dataMine take these pulses and translate them into a viewable measurement of water usage? Could the graph read “gallons” if the resolution of the meter were set to 1 gallon?
Depends on the accuracy and what you wish to achieve.
You need a device that can respond to pulses and record them … This is not what Vera is
designed for … As I recall … pulses typically happen at 1/10 of a gallon. You can get a large pulse count if you have something like a hose, bathtub, … or multiple uses at the same time.
What would be better is a controller designed to total (Integrate) and show rates (differentiate), the pulses and provide statistics. All over different intervals:
Minutes, Hours, Days, Weeks, Months, Years.
You can make one. There are controllers sold that attach to the water meters, many have RS-232 or similar interfaces.
