VRMX1-1LZ not dimming enough

Had two evolve lrm-as units installed in my basement. Each dimmer connects to one ceiling fixture with each fixture having two dimmable Cree led bulbs in place. Performance with the evolves were good but I wanted to upgrade to the lutron to take advantage of instant status automation/macros.

I install and pair the new lutron switches, set them for 1% and the lights are still much brighter than expected. Ild say as bright as the evolves were at ~30%.

I know there is an adjustment in the switch for adjusting the brightness but I read that as just dealing with the preset bookmarks when using the dimmer control. Is there anything else I should try before boxing them up and returning??

My experience is similar. I did the same thing for the same reason with the same results.

With the Evolve dimmers I could get the LEDs down to a “barely on” state. The VRMX1 is much brighter at 1%.

Hopefully somebody can suggest something to try.

Doug

I emailed them.

My question:

I have a VRMX1-1LZ dimmer connected to LED lights in my kitchen. The dimmer does not dim enough. Even at 1% brightness, they are much too bright. I had a competitor’s zwave dimmer and it was able to dim almost until the bulbs cut out. Is there a setting I can change, either via the switch or via Z-wave, that will change the minimum dim amount to something closer to the cut-off of the LEDs?

Their response:

Thank you for contacting Leviton. The VRMX1-1LZ does not have a minimum light level adjustment.

If I could still return mine, I would.

I ended up switching bulbs and was finally able to get them as dim as we were looking for.

I ended up going with an eco-incadescent bulb that I found at home depot. Was very cheap ($4/pair) and they seem to work OK. Rumor is the life on them sucks so I’ll probably be back to being bitter in a few months.
