I just set up 3 devices on a new ZWave network with VRCS2, Two Outlets with a Vera Lite and UI5. I noticed when I added the VRCS2, this created devices: Two “Lights” and a Button Controller. I am not sure what I can do with the Two “Lights” options as when I try to do anything with it, nothing happens.
I have the VRCS2 control two Zwave outlets. To do this, I created four scenes (I hope this is the right way to do things), Two to turn on each outlet, and two to turn off each outlet. I put this in the button controller and this allows me to use the physical light switches to turn on/off the light which works nicely.
What has me stumped is - what can I do with the two “light” ZWave devices as part of the VRCS2? If I turn it on (or off), nothing happens. I’m not sure what I can do to make them useful in the Vera. If I control the four scenes, I can turn on/off the light without a problem. I have tried adding the two light devices to the scenes as part of the outlets, but this didn’t seem to do the trick.
I figure I must be making a newbie mistake, so I’m looking forward to learning more and making the best use of my new ZWave system.
Press a button until blinking amber LED, then do an exclude on Vera. Which button to push, depends on how you wired things up (i.e. the top button is for one local load, the bottom button for the other).
When I add VRCS2 to ZWave, it creates 3 devices. If I try to remove the light I’m not using, it’ll also remove the other 2. I guess I can’t selectively remove one of them easily?
Interesting; my previous post was the result of me actually verifying this (still) works and I didn’t want to just post the steps (and the reason it took a bit before I posted a reply).
Did you press a single button on the VRCS2 until it blinked amber, and then put Vera in exclusion mode?
The fact that the buttons control the local loads after a reset, I consider a sort of ‘default configuration’; a handy convenience, possibly also for safety reasons (i.e. if somehow control of the loads is lost, resetting the device should regain it).
It does appear that this configuration is preserved, when used in a native Leviton environment (using a VRCPG for example). However, with Vera this configuration is cleared and you will have to create the proper scenes to make the buttons ‘do something’. Think of it as if they were 3 separate devices entirely: a scene controller, a switch and a switch.
Did you create any scenes?
IIUC: our bathrooms all have a VRCS2, the fan is on one button, the fan light on the other.
Creating the scenes is as usual: use trigger ‘A scene is activated’/‘Which scene = #’ (#=1 or 2, depending on button) for the On scenes, ‘A scene is de-activated’ etc. for the Off scenes.
