VistaCam doesn't work when attached to separate router

I am trying to attach my VistaCam wirelessly to a Netgear WNDR4500. I attach it with an ethernet cable first and view the configuration within the dashboard. The configuration indicates that the Vistacam is at IP address 192.168.81.282. When I type this address into my browser (so that I can configure the Vistacam for wireless use) the browser times out. I don’t believe that my router allows for this IP address. How is the camera getting this IP address and why can’t I access it? I can see the camera image in the dashboard when attached with the ethernet cable. Any ideas?

Is the camera attached to Vera via the ethernet port? You would need to setup routing via your router as Vera’s LAN ports are on a separate network. Accessing it via your regular network would not work without adding custom routes. The IP address of the camera is being assigned by Vera.

The VistaCam is attached with ethernet cable to my NetGear router on port 2. The internet is attached to Netgear and Vera2 is attached to the router on port 1. As you say…it looks like Vera2 is handing out the IP address but I have VistaCam attached to the Netgear.

What version of the UI are you running on your Vera 2? It sounds to me that you need to disable dhcp on Vera 2 as it is taking over issuing ip addresses.

This issue has been corrected. I am not really sure what the problem was or how it was totally resolved but here is my take on it.

The VistaCam can not be unplugged from one network (Vera2 DHCP for instance) and plugged into another network (Separate router with Vera2 being used as a switch) without first “resetting” Vistacam. Prior to “resetting” the Vistacam the IP address kept showing up with the original IP address that Vera2 had assigned. (this could be complete hogwash…this is how I perceived what was occuring).

Even after resetting Vistacam and getting an ip address that was controlled by the separate router I was unable to add the Vistacam to the dashboard. MIOS technical support was able to add the Vistacam to the dashboard for me. I asked what they did and they said they added the IP address to the Advanced tab. I had already added the IP address “many times” to the Advanced tab and also the Settings tab so I doubt this how the problem was corrected. (my assertion here could be hogwash also). I really wonder why we need IP address on both the advanced and settings tab…seems redundant.

I am now going through the same procedure for moving my Integra A/V Receiver over from the Vera2 control to separate router control and am encountering similar issues. First step was to manually type the IP address into MIOS (settings tab). After that my Integra “hung” and I was not able to adjust network settings in the Integra hardware menu. I put the Integra on a different network successfully and will now try attaching to MIOS again. Will probably be contacting MIOS support again…will keep anyone interested updated on my progress.
