Virtual Rain Sensor for Vera Integrated Sprinkler Plugin

I’d like to use WUnderground weather conditions to save some water here in SoCal on our small front lawn.

What items would I look at to

  • “Rain” condition is one trigger
  • Low Humidity or Temp
  • Outdoor Light Sensors measuring light intensity?

I personally us OpenSprinkler, but the logic should be similar with any model.

It never rains in southern California!

well, I am using the weather underground plugin telling me (as part of my PLEG) if it is raining or if there are thunderstorms. I use this in concert with my rain sensor. I don’t want to water the grass if it is going to rain.

I also created a “waterSaver” virtual switch that is part of my PLEG and cancels irrigation. I have is set to switch on for two days if it rained today.

there is a lot of fun thinking about all the reasons you want to cancel the irrigation.
