Hi All,
Did lots of reading yesterday and almost there but have a few questions on video.
I have an IP camera all set up and all works great. I can take pictures and work into PLEG etc so all is well.
I would like to know more about video however. I understand we cant stream in UI5 if my reading is correct. And I understand Vera may or may not be able to save video up to 15 minutes on the servers. I cant get this bit to work however.
My goal is to be able to record short videos (between 5 / 10 minutes) triggered via events. I would be happy to store this on Vera servers or my own - all though not sure how to point the video or picture saves to another location? I have seen the drop box solution but not what i seek as don’t want to use drop box.
I also have seen the blue iris integration possibilities but don’t really need all the kit that it comes with as I can do all i need with the logic in Vera and alerts via VeraAlerts.
So I guess in simple terms - how do i record video and save it for viewing either locally or remotely.
Thank you in advance.
There is no way to have vera record the stream to a local resource. You’ll need to look into a nvr.
Whats in the kit? A computer?
Blueiris and you’ll never look at video threw Vera again.
Vera has slow refresh, bad resolution and a delay that doesn’t make viewing very good. It also has no storage system or playback system. So that needs to be done with other hardware.
I have my cameras streaming threw Vera just for kicks, but my motion detection and notifications of who’s at my front door come from my Blue Iris app. Which when clicked gives my a live stream of the door or an Alert list. It’s a very nicely laid out app.
Unlike using only Vera with a picture of when the door is opened or something, I get alerts for mail being dropped, or someone snooping around. I don’t want a picture after they already opened the door.
BlueIris also has built in Geo-fence to check recording or notification options when Me or the Wife is home. No inside recording no front door notifications ( or only after so many min from the last one)
BI cost around 35-40.00 bucks depending on where you purchase your key and 10.00 for the Phone app. So 50.00 and a computer that most already have. Any features you don’t want you don’t have to use them, but they are there.
Hi integlikewhoa,
Yes sory I know its software whdn I said not wanting all that kit I was refrring to all the set up etc as I only realy seek a simple soloution. That said all your points are totaly valid and make good sence. I have use vitaminA historicaly its similar to bi but less complex but bi I think once I get stuck in will be the way to go. Thanks for the info.
