You can connect to it with any wifi device and it will do the normal surf the web and so on, I have all my android tablets connected to it to talk to vera directly via Imperihome.
seems to work fine.
I am not sure about this, I am sure you could do this either by PLEG or LUUP code, you can always do this using “Geofence”
I have mine connect via CAT7 but you can Connect it wirelessly it is in your dashboard it is under setting and net wifi you will have to manually configure it, I am sure this is right but my apologies if its wrong.

Thank you Mick! This is awesome! I actually don’t have one (yet) but the documentation is so limited, I don’t even know what all it does or how it works, so I have to ask around the forums.

Vera is built from a router. Vera’s hardware is bought from Sercomm (SERCOMM). So it has wireless router capabilities. With that said very few people use them as routers as they are very poor at doing that job and they bearly have enough power (sometimes they don’t) to just do the home automation side. Most standard install is to plug it into an exsiting router on your network and turn off wifi.
So far as knowing if you home or away based on your device. You can install the free PING sensor plugin in the vera app store and it will “PING” any device on the network wired or wireless to see if its connected. You don’t have to use wifi on vera to do this. There is also geofencing options (vera’s built in sucks). Also just so you know iPhones don’t work with Ping sensors. So if your an unfortunate sol who owns an iphone don’t count on any network checking as the iphone sleeps when sitting still and apple doesn’t allow app manufactures to change that option. So you phone will say you left every time it sits still to long even if your still connected to wifi.
As far has wif to your current network or wireless to your current network. As of today it only does hardwired, but they will fix that. The vera edge came out and the first few months that was also broken but now it allows it. I suspect sometime down the line the plus will be able to connect wireless as the hardware is there just the software doesn’t have the option yet.
I also recommend you wire it and set it next to the router anyways. Both devices should be in a good location that reaches evenly around the house. So they both should be center of the house. If you wifi is currently in one corner of the house then you should start buy fixing that problem first then put the vera right next to it, rather then trying to move the vera to the right place and and dealing with connecting the router where its in the corner of the house. Some people disagree and look for the weakest but easiest way out but that’s the right way.
