VeraPlus/Vera3 and Bridging/Memory Qs

As I’m thinking about setting up our soon to be delivered veraplus, I’m trying to figure out how best to manage the large number of devices we have on our system.

We currently have two Vera3 systems, one running the majority of our house and then a slave unit which serves mainly as a network extender to reach some areas of the property that pose a challenge.

I think I’ve come close to maxing out our master unit. We have a large system, including 100+ lutron switches, with only about half added to vera. Things start getting wonky if I try to add the rest…

Would it make sense to keep the old vera 3 running as a slave, solely housing our lutron system? Does this actually cut the device number/memory load on the master unit? Alternatively, I can set up scenes to call on/off for different switches/groups of switches, but don’t know if scenes use more or less memory than devices. We’ll be adding a significant number of additional lutron switches in the next year, so want to be thoughtful about how we set things up…

Has anyone tried bridging the veraplus yet–would be curious to hear experiences. Assuming both have to be on UI7?

I don’t have a plus yet, but I did bridge my edge with my lite. Both needed to be on ui7 AND I had to SSH into both and force change the hardcoded IP address (there is a guide). In my experience it took a very long time for the Edge to identify the other Vera. When I first tried this I thought it didn’t work. Revisited the next day and found the lite in the upnp list. So just remember be patient after enabling upnp scanning.

Ultimately I don’t use the bridged units anymore just the edge and will be using only the plus. I found the bridge introduced too much delay for my use.

Thanks! This is really helpful. I’ve had issues with the delay on the bridge as well–works great for some applications and not so great for others… You bring up a good point though. I don’t have any lights on my bridged vera, so don’t know how annoying the delay would be.
