VeraPlus device detection without LAN (Select & Sync buttons)

Hi,

Being new to Vera and trying to learn about my new VeraPlus I read a post by one of the more experienced members. He mentioned the side buttons ( xxx, include-exclude) on a Vera unit. The topic I was reading talked about the older unit having batteries.

I got me thinking the buttons on the VeraPlus (select, sync) are probably used to pair / include a device using the VeraPlus when not connected to the LAN.
For me power is usually not a problem, all my devices are withing a 15’ extension cord from a plug but LAN is more difficult (yes I could get a really long CAT5).

My test to see if I could use the buttons to include a device:

  • Using a GE link bulb.
  • Unplugged LAN cable from Vera
  • Turned on GE bulb
  • Pushed “select” button until the “zigbee” light was the only radio light on.
  • Pushed the “sync” button.
  • The GE blinked once (maybe twice)
  • Pushed “select” to see if I could change the mode to all radio lights on, but could not.

Reconnected LAN to Vera, and logged in. The GE link bulb was not paired. :frowning: I was able to pair it with a Generic Zigbee device.

So I think there is a way to include devices without a LAN, however I’ve not yet found it. Perhaps it only works with a device specifically in the Vera device list. If someone has other ideas or information I would appreciate a post.

BTW: If all this is already on some Vera site I haven’t found I’m going to be really embarrassed.

GE light bulbs are weird to pair it works as follows you may add the first one using the GE A19 bulb connect in ADD DEVICE my first one connected without a problem. the other 8 or so had to be done this way:

Go to add new device in dash, go down to GE A19 as before add the deive the bulb should blink 3 times (if it doesn’t reset the bulb by turning on and off 3 seconds each until it fades then brightens back up)

The new bulb will load as a zigbee device and show as a switch with no dimmer slider
then go to SETTINGS and Z WAVE SETTINGS then ADVANCED click on RELOAD ENGINE GO button
go back to DEVICES press F5 to reload page and it will change to a dimmer switch with on off mode, then you can use it as a dimmer bulb.

Not sure why it does this but this is how I got it all to work with tech support .
Hope this helps
