I read in an old post the Veralite has a 433MHz radio. I’m curious; what can it communicate with at that frequency?
While I’m waiting for my VeraPlus, I was thinking that some day I would look into and RFXcom hopefully to read my wireless thermometers/hygrometers. Is it possible the VeraLite could do this?
I think you may have misinterpreted what you read. Vera Lite does NOT have a 433Mhz radio. The ONLY radio in the Vera Lite is Z-Wave.
Some people, mostly European users, have plugged a RFXCom RFXtrx433 USB dongle into their Veras to control 433Mhz devices. Many devices use 433MHz including fans, lights, garage door remotes, your thermometers… Whether you can control these devices with the RFXCom is another matter.
As zwaver says you need the rfxcom rfxtrx for doing the 433 stuff.
I’m using one with my edge and I use an owl energy meter and a variety of outlets and a couple of lightwaveRF window sensors with mine quite happily.
The downside is that the range is pretty poor compared to Zwave, walls being a bigger issue and the lack of mesh means it doesn’t improve.
I’ve saved allot of money, or more likely wasted lots on getting quite a big system quite quickly due to the low cost off 433 stuff.
The reason I say wasted is that I’ll quite probably replace a large chunk of it with zwave devices later on in time as there are a couple of places in the house that a plug takes a could of attempts to turn on. I’ve created pleg scenes that multiple trigger the devices, but it means sometimes there is a delay turning on and also no feedback is there are turned on or off locally.
If you can get compatible devices cheap enough though going 433 for non critical parts of the network can allow you faster entry to a more complete network.

Lol
Nope the date given was Feb 14th if you ordered last month, now it’s March something if you order now. No release dates were given before this year.
That’s the Vera Plus not the Vera Secure
Yes your right! No date has been given at all for the secure. So may not be until a few more years.
So you mean the plus?
I couldn’t find info on the secure other that a nearly 2 year old announcement.
The Feb 14th date was for the PLUS, The Secure is all just a dream at this point with no release date or concrete specs on it. Until they officially announce it, give the full specs, set a date and take orders it doesn’t exist.
It actually has happened… The fancy marketing sheet indicates a release date of “Summer”… The don’t specify a frame of reference, such as which part of the world, or which year though…
On another note, the 433MHz support listed on the marketing sheet specifically states “for security devices”… So support for Caseta, LitewaveRF, and other general purpose devices (keypads, outlets, dimmers, etc) may not be what the user base is expecting…

A flyer at a show doesn’t count as a release/release date/ or valuable specs. As already Mentioned a flyer just like that has been around for over 2 years at previous shows.
