Is it possible to log into a VeraLite that uses UI7? I’ve tried connecting an e-net line to my Win 7 computer (both through a my router and a direct connection) but can’t seem to connect to it, even at the IP address its been assigned.
My unit is set up and had been working until I’ve experienced this temporary internet outage which will not be resolved for a few more days. The VeraLite still turns on some of my lights as expected but doesn’t turn them off since loosing the internet connection. Not sure why this is but it sure would be easier if I could log into it directly and turn them off that way, instead of going outside and manually turning off power receptacles.
I don;t use UI7 but, yes you can connect to the Vera Lite web UI from the local LAN even when the internet is down. Simply enter the Vera Lite’s IP address.
If your turn off is based on a timer or schedule then you may have an issue. The Vera Lite does not have an internal clock. It gets its time from internet time servers. If you powered off your Vera Lite while the internet is down, it will not have any clue what the time or date is.
There are posts on this forum discussing ways to use NTP servers that are not on the internet.
Well yes, from what I’ve read, you are supposed to be able to get a web interface but I can’t seem to do so. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or its another UI7 bug. Be interesting to hear if anyone else using UI7 can do this.
I’ve tried entering the Vera Lite’s IP address into several different browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari). Per the Wiki, I’ve also tried http://local.findvera.com and http://192.168.81.1 but no luck.
Your note about the Vera Lite not having an internal clock is surprising but good info. Thanks
I have read posts from other UI7 users that were able to access the interface without an internet connection, as expected.
The 192.168.81.1 address will only work if your PC is also configured to use the 192.168.81.x subnet. http://local.findvera.com will only work with an operable internet connection.
Questions:
Are the lights on your Vera Lite working as expected, save for a flashing internet light?
Does the cable form the Vera light have a link light and blink to show activity at the router?
The PC you are attempting to log in from is local to the Vera(on the same IP subnet)?
Can you ping the Vera IP address?
My internet connection has been restored and I was able to log in and disable the “Secure your Vera” setting. That seems to have been the “problem” since I can now connect directly to my Vera Lite.
Now I need to find out more about what exactly “Secure your Vera” does. When I first configured my unit I had blindly enabled this since it seemed like a good thing to do.
The setting disables connections from the local network.
Unfortunately there isn’t a middle ground of requiring a password to access locally, you either have to depend on network connectivity, or allow anyone on you local network full access to turn on/off any switches / scenes / configurations on the device :-\
