I read that UI7 is quite buggy.
do you recommend me to stick with the VERALITE controller or to wait a bit for a decent UI7 software.
I have asked the same question yesterday: I’ve owned my VeraEdge for two months and for most of the time it has been unusable. I asked for support but they have not released a stable and working firmware for the Edge yet, although we are led to believe this is imminent.
The Veralite/Vera 3 et all have the old Z-wave chip in and have slower processors and less RAM. So the Edge has a better hardware platform - just.
If you can wait around and have the use of another controller then the Edge may give you the … erm Edge. But I would not count on it if you actually need a functional system that is dependent on USB controllers (like the RFX in my case).
If you are good with code / linux then Open HAB is the way to go although this is also still in its infancy. I’m sure someone with more experience than I will chime in with pearls of wisdom

Do you already have the VeraLite? How big is the system you have?
If you have a basic system, I think you can get by with UI7. I have maybe 10 devices with 5 plugins and I am running UI7 with no issues except that the GlobalCache plugin cannot be configured in it.

I think it depends on what you have and if anything your trying to install will not work on ui7.
I have both a LITE and an EDGE. I have my EDGE since first week of December due to USB to Serial not working (until last week) I wasn’t using (hadn’t made the swap over) to the EDGE. I was testing but not using it as a main unit. After the last update I’m now using it only.
I personally would get the EDGE. Yes there maybe be a little quark here or there but The hardware has double the RAM which was my problem with the LITE. It got overloaded and started rebooting and causing issues. The cost isn’t much more. It also has the new z-wave chip (which currently probley wont make a difference unless you have newer devices that can use it).

For my needs the answer was neither - Vera3, and downgrade to UI5 until UI7 is ready. Same RAM as EDGE, and just about the same processor. Only real difference IMHO is the Z-wave chip. List price is an issue, but I recently found one new from a known HA retailer for the same price as an EDGE… (Checked, and they are sold out of the Vera3 now.)
And it works great under UI5 now, with UI7 upgrade in the future.
UI7 is not as bad as it used to be, I wouldn’t buy a 3 due to price for older slower hardware.
That is unless you specificity need a plugin that only works in ui5. There is a few of those but not many anymore.
Same as Wilme2: Vera lite maxed out. Got an Edge but very bad experience. Just found a Vera 3 and will move over to that one (on ui5) until there is a better alternative

Hi comunity
I’m using vera lite for a few years now.
Nowadays it’s going to be more and more slowly.
now, i’ thinking about upgrading to edge.
one question i was not able to answer for me is:
To pair devices with vera lite, you can place batteries in and walk around with vera.
How do i pair devices with edge? Devices which can not removed and placed near vera?
thanks in advance
Paul

For me, Zwave devices that are on the second floor can still pair with the Vera Edge on the first floor with no problem. If you need to get the vera edge closer though, you would need to buy your own battery supply to plug it into. There was a post about this when the Edge first came out.

I have VERA Lite and EDGE. To include devices in the VERA lite you don’t need to put batteries and walk around. I always leave vera in same spot plugged in and device in normal location and click to add new devices.
UI7 has been rock solid for me over the last few months. While the upgrade from the old UI might be painful, it’s a pretty decent UI at this point.
