VeraLite memory upgrade

Hello all

I’m thinking of desolder / solder in a bigger memory chip on my Vera lite (this is if the board has the traces laid out for it.)

I’m now wondering if anyone is able to tell me the type of memorychip the Vera3 has?

Also, say this would work out, does anyone know if anything has to be done for the Linux image Vera is running to discover the extra memory?

Why do you want to add more memory the VeraLite? Are you running memory intensive plugins? Or do you just have a large z-wave network?

Hello

Well, I have no spesific problems. I just see that I’m running on fumes from time to time.
Also as the Vera3 has twice the amount of memory I hope most things are set for an easy upgrade.

I’ve ordered the chip needed. Will see if I get the spare time to desolder, check if the board is laid out with the needed traces, and then solder in the bigger chip.

The fun part will be if the firmware finds the extra memory and ill be able to use it.

Yes exactly! Well, let us know what happens, I am curious about this.

Hello

Yepp, will report back when I’ve molested my VeraLite

bump. any update?

Hello

Well, got a strip of 10 chips, cheaper to buy 10 than 2…

Alot of work these days, will see if I get the chance to do some soldering soon.

Promise to report back as soon as I’ve tried it out.

Tommy

I am interested as well.

I’m interested in this also, if I cant fit a Vera3 in to the budget some time soon…

I’m sensing an uptick in new Vera sales.

Hello

I got my chips. Removed the old memory chip, and soldered in a new, twice the size.

Powered up the board and it started, but the extra memory was not recognised…

I saw that the board had the trace laid out, so I think/hope it is connected to the RT3662.

I wonder if any of you have any experiense with boot loaders found on boards like the one Vera is based upon?

If any of you have any ideas or pointers I?d love to hear.

At least my BGA soldering went good, so no need buying a new Vera for me

Good job! Too bad it didn’t recognize the additional memory.

Sorry it didn’t work out :frowning:
I was really intrigued by what you were trying to do.

Doesn’t upgrading ram require usually updating nvram values or a new kernel?

It’s running Openwrt so I’m sure the extra RAM can be enabled with a bit of Googling.

Hello

These are the things I know the least about.

I`ve asked a questions in the OpenWRT board as the Vera is running that.

A member there suggested that I need to modify the U-BOOT.

I was hoping that there are some simpler ways than flashing the U-BOOT, as I probably would need the sources for it…

Wish I knew more about how these things are glued together software wise…

I will continue to test any good ideas, if I get some, would be cool to have the extra memory discovered

Nice try Tommy. I was hoping you would hit a homerun. Maybe some of the other Senior Vera users could offer some help.
