VeraLite Lua restarted and stopped working last night!

Hello,
Yesterday my VeraLite did something strange:

  • I have e-mail notification when the vera Lua restarts (was reboot, but the box didn’t reboot, just the Lua restarted) and got the restart at exact 2:00am.
  • In the morning I couldn’t use any of my android remote applications as they stopped working.
I was getting errors saying that the vera could not be refreshed or the command was not sent properly.

I could not use external, neither internal wifi network, so this is pretty BAD - simply lost control over my automated devices in the house!

To fix this issue I had to:

  • In the AutHomation application search for my vera’s and re-add it.
  • In the HomeBuddy I had to force close the application, clear the application cache and add vera to it again.

I did notice that search servers have changed from fwd1.mios.com and fwd2.mios.com to fwd4.mios.com

Any ideas?

Did MiCasVerde planned some outage and not informed anyone about this? If something like that happens again I would like to have control over my house via wifi at least… I suspect there was some change on the MiCasaVerde part as the restart occured at exact 2:00.

Unfortunately my LuaUPnP.log was rotated and I can not see what happened there.

I think it’s time to ask MiCasaVerde to develope offline version of the service with possibility of remote control, currently it’s very their service dependend and as well internet connection dependend. I would like to have my automated things reliably working and not 3rd party dependent.

For users that do know how to set the vpn it won’t be a security issue or even having https won’t harm… there are some techniques to secure communication.

If you do a search for 2am luup restarts, you’ll find a wealth of information. Your Vera did a nightly heal and restarted when completed. During that restart it changed its forwarding servers which is not uncommon. 3rd party apps are supposed to account for this. But one of your forwarding servers changed to the new fwd4 server. Do you have a static ip for your Vera or via dhcp? I highly suggest that you set a static ip for your Vera.

I do have IP address from the dhcp server, but it’s always the same (based on the MAC address).

Sorry, I could not find anything in those forums neither in the google searching for the:

“2am luup restarts”
“luup restart 2am”
“2am restarts 2am”
“luup restarts nightly”
“luup restart night”

and few others…

Could you point me to some information why it does restart and what to do to prevent it?

Ok, found the topic:
