Veralite keeps blinking the green light

Hi,

I just got my VeraLite today. When setting up all went well. But, when giving my veralite a static ip I also changed the ip address of the wan. Now, all of a sudden nothing works anymore. The green light is blinking fast and that’s it.

I tried a hard reset, bit this is not working. I’m runnig the latest firmware (I updated it at first use). I also don’t have the root password, since I can’t get it out of the gui.
Also, all the answers on the wiki pages didn’t help me forward.
I can’t access the page with direct cable as well. not on the 192.168.81.1 or at the 192.168.2.5 address. I do get to see the gui, but it says Luup engine is taking longer to reload. Nothing else happens.
Also the link ‘Request tech support’ doesn’t work because the veralite says it can’t connect to the internet.

You guys have any idea what I have to do?

Cheers,

Danny

hilgie, you’ve pretty much covered every avenue I was going to suggest. I think you are reduced to picking up the phone and calling MCV support.

Meanwhile, persevere with double-pressing the reset button. It’s apparently very picky about timing, so you probably have to practise the secret knock a few times.

Ok, contacted mios support. The solution for me was:

  • Disconnect all the cables;
  • Connect only the power cable;
  • Press the reset button for over 15 seconds (or untill all the lights will go on and off simultaneously)

So, the dubble reset is not working anymore with the new firmware (1.5.408).

Cheers,

Danny

Thanks so much for this little thread.

I have exactly the same issues and was trying to resolve this on thread

which has similar symptoms.

I cannot tell you how pi$$ed off I am right now. I to tried to reset the IP on my Vera to a static IP. That is a static IP on the L_A_N or “local area network”. Under those settings I found two places that appeared to be LAN settings so I set them both to the same IP. That caused me to get the symptoms above with no resolution other than the reset described above. I now know that the reset is a factory reset causing me to lose all of my pairings which took days to complete due to the flaky process for pairing with Schlage deadbolts.

Apparently the second “LAN” setting is actually the IP the Vera uses to communicate with the Internet? So why does the wrong setting here cause the whole thing to go south??? Poorly designed software. Come on guys!

Simply adding a little text to the GUI would have really helped. Simply showing “LAN Settings” is misleading and lazy. How about something like “Cloud Communications IP. Do not change if you are simply setting a static IP of this unit.”

I have been configuring network gear for decades. This would have been easily avoided with a good description of what the IP really is. And you really need to change the operation so that local access is not hosed due to an Internet communication issue.

Sorry for the rant but I cant imagine how newbies get through this.

Why set Vera to static IP internally? isn’t your DHCP server able to ID her via her MAC and give her a static IP?
I prefer that route (and use it on my private home network) as it’s far easier to make changes if needed.

Worst case, both Amazon and eBay sells ‘PogoPlug mobile’ units for about $7. These will take Debian or ArchLinux and you can set them up as a mini Linux server. There you can run DHCP, NAS, Samba etc. very small and low power.

I’m considering bundling one with a travel router and a large capacity USB stick to create a media serving Wifi AP in the car. Put some movies and audio on it that tablets and phones can access. No moving parts, easily powered by a USB power port in the cigarette lighter outlet. Also easily moved from my one vehicle to the other.

Setting a static IP is a very simple solution that every IP device I know of supports. All of the extra effort you describe to pin IP’s via DHCP is just that, extra effort. I let many of my devices use DHCP when I don’t care what the IP is. For those that I do care about, I use a static IP which is “usually” very simple to setup. The Vera happens to be error prone due to a poor UI design/lack of info on that page. It could be easily fixed.

If you just want to rant, that’s fine. Many before you have already done so. It’s never changed anything and is unlikely to change anything in this case either.

You’re right, it should be possible to do something as simple as set a static IP address. But the fact is that the Vera UI6 has a bug that doesn’t allow it via the web interface. That means your best option is to use a DHCP reservation, like @BOFH suggested. Alternatively you can contact Vera support and have them do it for you or you can exercise your Linux/OpenWRT foo and do it manually.
