Hello, I have the VeraLite (off white colored box, not the green one I have seen everywhere). I don’t even actually know what UI or firmware version it shipped with. It was a combo kit box from Tiger Direct (in the actual store, not online).
- I created a login with no issue.
- Connected the VeraLite normally into my router the device was recognized and ordered me to do an upgrade before I proceeded with no other ability to bypass that I saw.
- During the upgrade received an email “Unit Notification” with an email validation code.
- At some point I got a download failure on the screen. No buttons or options to retry or fix that I saw.
- At this point, the unit never connected again to my network.
- After head banging I realized it was at least partially bricked due to the firmware failure.
- I confirmed the device will NOT use DHCP at this point.
- I set my computer to manual IP 192.168.81.2 with gateway of .1.
- Both of those IP’s are pingable. .1 Does load the web server interface and presents me with “root”.
- I cannot get any access to the password using the nvram grep command or using the password stored in the backup because a backup has never been made.
- I can confirm that I can accept the key for first time SSH connection but without a password it doesn’t help me.
So…
I was wondering what to do next. Here is what I think:
- Set home router to wireless repeating option and connect the VeraLite to the other router. From my research I should be able to get internet access while having the two different subnets (192.168.1.1 and 192.168.81.1).
- All I need to do is then launch http://192.168.81.1/cgi-bin/cmh/upgrade_step1.sh **Is this correct or should the IP be 81.2?
Any other options, ideas, considerations or information I can provide?
I’ll be getting a support ticket created but I wanted to get this information on the forum first.
