Veralite, DSC 1616 w/ Plugin...Now What?

Hello! This is my first post - I will try to keep it quick and concise. (Also, I have spent hours reading the forum for an answer, and if it is there, I can’t find it - any direction would be great).

My current config (only relevant pieces listed):
Controller - Veralite
Alarm - DSC1616
Alarm Adapter- Envisalink EVL-3
Bridge - TP-LINK TL-WR702N
Plugin v. .38, I believe.

Ok, so I have everything set up, and the EVL-3 seems to be working well. I can access it/arm it/etc. through the iPhone app. I can view the zones on the Veralite App, and on cp.mios.com. I can move the zones around on there, rename them, set alerts, etc. However, that is all I can do when it comes to connection with my Vera. On the cp.mios.com page, I cannot change any of the settings. I see nothing under the panel (and more times than not receive the Lua Failure).

I have set the EVL-3 up on a static IP, and again, I can communicate with it very well through the EyezOn App, as well as directly through the device’s IP address.

Maybe I am looking for functionality that doesn’t exist? I would have through there would be more to the “panel” on the MiCasaVerde site - there is nothing, with no control over the device. It sees the device, I suppose, but that is all (also, when I do go to the setup of the panel, it does not have an option for the EVL-3, just the two older methods of connection.).

Can anyone tell me what the functionality is supposed to be? Possibly some suggestions on why mine may not be working? (also, in the drop down under Controlled Via, I am hesitant to change it from the default of “no parent” as it threatens to brick my Vera).

Thanks all! I appreciate the guidance!!!

Select the 2DS as the module.
In the advanced tab enter the IP address of your EVL3

In the bottom half of the advanced tab you then can the zones to reflect your set up.

Remember to save the changes which will then restart the Vera and apply the new settings.

How did you install the plugin?

  • Garrett

Hi! Thanks for the quick responses!

Brientim - I have entered the IP address into the advanced tab. Unfortunately, when I select the 2DS, I always get a communications error.

Garrettwp - I installed the plugin directly through the “app store” on cp.mios. I have uninstalled and it reinstalled it a few times.

Am I looking for functionality that doesn’t exist? Can anyone tell me (or send a picture?) of what the Panel should look like on cp.mios?

In the Advanced tab is the a variable for commUse (or something similar) set to 2DS.

Save changes again.

Have you done anything else on your EVL3 like change the password?

Sorry not CommUse but interface type set to 2DS. CommUse should be RS232.

I am on a my mobile and hence not providing a screen capture.

Brientim - Thanks again! Ok, I have changed interface type to 2DS, and commUse was already set to RS232. That fixed my Lua Failure (for now?), but still no additional functionality.

I took screen shots of my “panel” on the home page, as well as the settings. Though, I am not sure how to upload photos here (and not sure if they would help)

Thank you very much for the guidance! It really is appreciated!!!

What functionality are you expecting?

  • Garrett

Give it sometime after reloading and you may need to Reload again before all the it is fully functional.

Brientim - Thanks, and will do.

Garrettwp - I don’t know - that is why I posted that. I figured there would be some sort of functionality to it…being able to arm it, disarm it, etc. Perhaps even a simulated keypad? Again, I would be happy to send pictures of what I have, if that would help. Literally the only thing I can do is see that it is on the system. Nothing more.

The next step is setting the zones as described in the second link I sent previously. It should look like the attached screen capture.

You probably need to review the link I sent as this describes the functionality and terminology used for the DSC app. It is really the foundation from which you can utilise and integrate with other devices and scenes etc.

Once loaded and configured correctly you will end up with three primary things. The parent, a partition and zones. Attached is a screen shot. Note: read about the bypass as displayed - it is an internal Vera functionality.

Brientim, Garrettwp - Thank you both for the help! Adding in the port information and changing the value in EnableRemoteArm variable to disarm did the trick. I can now arm/disarm from the partition in cp.mios. I can’t do that from the Veralite app, yet (what iPhone app does everyone recommend?), but I will get there.

Also, just knowing what to expect really helped. I was expecting more of a panel emulation - not that I need it, but glad to know what to look for!

Fantastic help - thank you both.

For you EVL3 I suggest you use their mobile portal (app). You do this from with in their site and send yourself the link.

Brientim - Good suggestion. I have been using that and it is great. I was hopeful there was a good app that covered everything. I am fine using 2 apps, just hopeful there was an all in one solution. Again, great help!

HomeWave and Automator.app should support the DSC Plugin. I use neither as I am on android and use my own app.

Smart guy! Thank you for the suggestions. I have heard high praises of those as well. I will check them out!

What “port information?” Is port forwarding necessary to make work???

[quote=“garrettwp, post:8, topic:177569”]What functionality are you expecting?

I have EnableRemoteArm set to arm, but the only thing that gives me is the ability to arm from the mios panel. I want to be able to arm or disarm from the Vera application. Oddly, the zones show up there, but nothing else.

You do not need to Port Forward:

http://code.mios.com/trac/mios_dscalarmpanel
Refer to Additional Setup.

If remote Arming and Disarming is not required from Vera, then exit and save; however if this is required then stay in this screen and enter one of the following into the EnableRemoteArm variable:

disarm (Least secure as all functions are available including disarm)
arm (Will enable away and stay arming)
NOTE: disarm is the least secure and enables all remote arming features.
